About that catastrophic cap crunch. Bob McKenzie has confirmed Nick Kypreos’ initial report of 2 years, $5.8 million (split like so: $2.7 million in 2013-14, $3.1 million in 2014-15) for Nazem Kadri’s new contract, avoiding a training camp holdout.

Dave Nonis and Claude Loiselle got their terms by waiting out Kadri, from the looks of things.

This should leave a little under $3 million or so to get Cody Franson done.

Kadri’s only real play for further leverage in this negotiation would’ve been to hold out like Subban did while hoping the team suffers in his absence, so we can all be thankful he hasn’t taken that approach.

Kadri will be an RFA again come July 1 of 2015, but will be aiming to score a more lucrative long term extension before then as Logan Couture and Matt Duchene both did.

In the meantime, hard to argue this doesn’t align with some of the other bridge deals signed in recent seasons for players of Kadri’s ilk.

Thank God it’s over. No camp missed and hopefully no hard feelings.
