Its sad when I am "happy" that it was only 2 games for Dion for a hit I see about 20 times a night across the Centre Ice pak universe. This 'turn then flop' bullshit when guys feel the contact they know is coming is out of hand. I mean its obvious that Dion lets off him, its just that Dion is a bit of a tank and was flying in there like he should. Its a grown up sport out there and the league needs to remind its employees to not routinely put themselves in danger hoping for a penalty and or suspension. Especially when the standard the league tries to convey to the public is so out of whack and obviously slanted and inconsistent , that its a literal crap shoot of interpretation now. An absolute joke. How can players play with any confidence if they have to play tentative ....especially when wearing a Leaf jersey under the spotlight of the entire NHL. Definitely a tough time to lose Dion but we need to rally behind this nonsense and wake the fuck up here. GLG
Off to the woods to slay some trees and listen to Alec's bestie O'Dog
Guy's entertaining but definitely a brick short of a full one.
Does anyone here know why the maple leaf is blue instead of green or say a more autumn themed colour?
When I look at this team right now, I have really had to alter my expectations to the point where I am starting to ask what can we do to make next year better. With the cap going up, it looks like we may be able to do something but it has to be smart. This team still lacks physicality and the ability to win pucks. Bringing back Komarov is one move I would make and depending on the availability of Grabovski and how he plays this year I would even explore a return by him.
A true first line C would be a top priority, but as we have seen these do not move around very often. The only thing we might be able to do is make a deal to move up high in the draft and try that route. Even then we would be looking at a player who is not going to contribute for at least a couple years maybe.

Are leaf fans really that oblivious to how much we need Phaneuf? wow..
@Shift_Disturber1 hey didn't someone on boston hit a leafs' player in the head? Why isn't that dirt bag getting suspended?
@Shift_Disturber1 Still sucks, but I was thinking it was going to be worse than that.
@Shift_Disturber1 Let me be the first to say Bullshit.
@Shift_Disturber1 Maybe the Leafs should just forfeit
@Burtonboy and Seidenberg? :)
@Shift_Disturber1 I seen that, that's brutal eh. Jesus
Once known as the Blueshirts, Shamrocks, Marlboros, Arenas and the St. Patricks, Toronto’s premier hockey franchise became known as the Maple Leafs after a group headed by Mr. Conn Smythe purchased the team on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1927. Taking over a club that earned Stanley Cup championships in 1918 (Toronto Arenas) and 1922 (Toronto St. Pat’s), Smythe soon started laying the foundation that evolved into the current appearance of the storied Toronto Maple Leafs.
Now in charge of Toronto’s National Hockey League entry, Smythe’s patriotic pride led him to decide on a Maple Leaf as the team’s namesake and crest. The Maple Leaf was a proud national symbol to Smythe due to his military career. It is also said that he admired the team name of the East Toronto Maple Leaves whom he scouted regularly. The uniform colours remained green and white for a year after he purchased the team out of respect for the previous organization. He then changed the colours to blue and white, likely due to his long time involvement with the Unversity of Toronto Blues hockey team who have the same colours.
It is blue because Conn Smythe was a protestant and wanted the blue instead of the traditional green of the catholics, so he changed the colours when they changed team names.
I'm guessing Ontario Tory blue..unsure though.
@deedrag The Toronto Maple Leafs are based off an army contingent not the actual Maple Leaf itself.
@B_Leaf There's not a snowball's chance in hell Nonis brings back Grabovski, especially after his tirade on Carlyle when they bought him out. And I wish people would stop bringing up Komarov. The guy's obviously selfish and me-first. He can rot in Russia!

Pretty sure it had to do with the unofficial anthem Maple Leaf Forever which was a favorite in the times as well.

@BBirde @deedrag Was their symbol blue?
re 2 head shots not to mention Our goalies getting rammed into the net where goals that were made because of this were allowed to stand ,FUC this makes me .......
Right..the orange men of course.
Wondered if Smythe was determined to step away from Catholic colours if there was another connection to blue in the religious context
Anyway,Blue it is.
Not a bad pint either :)
yes...did the Protestants have a "colour"?
People forget this was long before Pearson and the flag etc.
Tories were always blue too...connection?
@deedrag "The uniform colours remained green and white for a year after he purchased the team out of respect for the previous organization. He then changed the colours to blue and white, likely due to his long time involvement with the Unversity of Toronto Blues hockey team who have the same colours. Past Public Relations Director, Stan Obodiac was fond of saying the blue represented the blue of the Canadian sky and the white represented the white of the Canadian snow." http://www.tmlfever.com/LeafsLogoHistory.html
@deedrag I'm not sure as to why it is Blue and White but Smythe made the decision when he renamed them from the St.Pats to the Toronto Maple Leafs. I mean the first jersey for them was blue and white, just continued to carry it forward I suppose.
