Its sad when I am "happy" that it was only 2 games for Dion for a hit I see about 20 times a night across the Centre Ice pak universe.  This 'turn then flop' bullshit when guys feel the contact they know is coming is out of hand.  I mean its obvious that Dion lets off him, its just that Dion is a bit of a tank and was flying in there like he should. Its a grown up sport out there and the league needs to remind its employees to not routinely put themselves in danger hoping for a penalty and or suspension. Especially when the standard the league tries to convey to the public is so out of whack and obviously slanted and inconsistent ,  that its a literal crap shoot of interpretation now.  An absolute joke.  How can players play with any confidence if they have to play tentative ....especially when wearing a Leaf jersey under the spotlight of the entire NHL. Definitely a tough time to lose Dion but we need to rally behind this nonsense and wake the fuck up here.  GLG

Off to the woods to slay some trees and listen to Alec's bestie O'Dog

Guy's entertaining but definitely  a brick short of a full one.

Does anyone here know why the maple leaf is blue instead of green or say a more autumn themed colour?

When I look at this team right now, I have really had to alter my expectations to the point where I am starting to ask what can we do to make next year better. With the cap going up, it looks like we may be able to do something but it has to be smart. This team still lacks physicality and the ability to win pucks. Bringing back Komarov is one move I would make and depending on the availability of Grabovski and how he plays this year I would even explore a return by him.

A true first line C would be a top priority, but as we have seen these do not move around very often. The only thing we might be able to do is make a deal to move up high in the draft and try that route. Even then we would be looking at a player who is not going to contribute for at least a couple years maybe.

Hey guys...Anyone been following the Marlies closely this year...I must admit so far I have not. But it looks like Sam Carrick is putting up decent numbers in his role as a 21 year old. Any thoughts on which guys are standing out.

Once again love the hangout guys. Layoff Langlois he's doing a fine job. Some of us old timers tend to go off like he does because we need more time to gather our thoughts so as not to make a stupid comments. Remember this is a true fan site, not a big media biased production. It's the average guy or gal giving their opinion with the occasional pro bringing us back to reality. That's what makes this site the best " Your thoughts actually count whether we agree or not. Like they said in the Hangout, we are the luckiest fans in the world were we can discuss our favorite pastime, 365 days a yr. Enjoy the ride the Leafs provide because our lives wouldn't mean as much without it.

@Shift_Disturber1 hey didn't someone on boston hit a leafs' player in the head? Why isn't that dirt bag getting suspended?

@deedrag

It is blue because Conn Smythe was a protestant and wanted the blue instead of the traditional green of the catholics, so he changed the colours when they changed team names.

@deedrag The Toronto Maple Leafs are based off an army contingent not the actual Maple Leaf itself.

@hoolihan

Right..the orange men of course.

Wondered if Smythe was determined to step away from Catholic colours if there was another connection to blue in the religious context

Anyway,Blue it is.

Not a bad pint either :)

@Uncle Otis @hoolihan I'd really like to see a flaming red leaf to honour their 100th anniversary. Even for just one game.

@hoolihan

yes...did the Protestants have a "colour"?

People forget this was long before Pearson and the flag etc.

Tories were always blue too...connection?

@deedrag "The uniform colours remained green and white for a year after he purchased the team out of respect for the previous organization. He then changed the colours to blue and white, likely due to his long time involvement with the Unversity of Toronto Blues hockey team who have the same colours. Past Public Relations Director, Stan Obodiac was fond of saying the blue represented the blue of the Canadian sky and the white represented the white of the Canadian snow."  http://www.tmlfever.com/LeafsLogoHistory.html

@deedrag I'm not sure as to why it is Blue and White but Smythe made the decision when he renamed them from the St.Pats to the Toronto Maple Leafs. I mean the first jersey for them was blue and white, just continued to carry it forward I suppose.
