@Jmessih Really fair deal considering the cap will be around 80 million by the 3rd year of that deal.
I don't mind the$7 million part, but I'm skeptical about the 7 years part.
The media will definitely have a heyday with this one though!!
At this point I'd send Rielly to the WJC. At least then he can have one happy memory this season. Hopefully he comes back to a better, more modern coach. Waive Fraser and Ranger, nobody will claim them and if they do then it's just more capspace. Gardiner-Phaneuf/Gunnar-Franson/Liles-Holzer/Brennan.
I wouldn't mind seeing Rielly play at the WJC, but if he's gonna play 15+ minutes with the Leafs, he might as well stick around.
P.S. It's amazing how fast the bandwagoners turn on the coach when a team goes into a slump.
What's amazing, is how the team is still in a playoff spot, even though they've been playing like ass.
Does anybody think Rielly or Gardiner should be paired with Phaneuf?
Pair the other with Franson and keep them together for the two PP units. That way you have a shooter with a set-up man.
@.JVR. Sure, I'd go with Gardiner-Phaneuf/Gunnarson-Franson-/Rielly-Liles
Edit: I'd even go as far as bringing up Holzer or Granberg and pair them with Rielly as well.
@.JVR. I'd like us to try using 3 units. Keep Dion on the top PP but run 4 forwards. I'd go with Kulie as the 4th forward. Then Franson/Gardiner and Rielly/Liles. Phaneuf is good enough defensively to man the point alone. Hell if Paul Martin can do it then I'm sure Phaneuf could do it.
With the first unit usually playing over a minute, that doesn't leave alot of time for a 2nd unit, let alone a third unit.
Yea, I've thought about the Gunnarsson/Franson pairing before and everytime I see it, I like it.
@.JVR. @vinoa That's assuming that we only get 1 or 2 penalties a game. Dion's usually gassed because he plays top PP and PK minutes. If we had 2 other dependable pairings we could at least cut down a bit of his PP time.
Edits: Because we sure as hell need him on the PK...imagine Ranger/Fraser/Franson/Gardiner killing PKs over Dion.
You'll have even more time to golf off ;)
@TheCanucksnaphook seneter you ? should we lol bow now
@TheCanucksnaphook thats a 667 save percentage. Expect a call from Craig MacT any minute now
Nope, just a healthy scratch.
couple of points- Carlyle knows we need a partner other than Gunner for Dion. Hence trying to get Holzer and Kotska to fill that hole last year... Gunner would be way better served being a stable presence in another pairing.
also, feel for Fraser a little... finally has a chance to crack an nhl lineup and is trying to play through an injury to save his job and an 80% Fraser just isnt good enough.
I understand Carlyle's dilema.
@Yaknowwhat Whats he going to do, tell Nonis the truth, you have not given me a Legit NHL defense that I can win with :))))))
@Yaknowwhat No excuse to have Ranger and Fraser in the NHL. At this point, Holzer and Brennen would be better, and if they're not, then they at least deserve the chance to play.
Rielly(if WJC, Ranger is #7)
many people are criticizing the coaching and the players etc...but nobody has mentioned that the general manager david nonis has made quite a few mistakes with his personnel decision making. he bought out grabovski( currently3d in Washington scoring with26 points) and let macarthur go ( currently 4th in Ottawa scoring with 25 points) so he could sign Clarkson( 6points, a 10game suspension and another one looming) and bozak ( injuries up the wazoo and lessthan 10points) and albeit a good trade for bolland but (a serious injury and unknown return date and 10 points ). if kessel or van reimsdyk go down with injuries......say sayonara to any hope of a playoff spot.......there is no secondary scoring on this team and although Raymond has been playing well, let's face it he is soft...actually the whole team is soft this year....no hitting opponents like last year's team......loved orr and mclarenlast year but this year they are mere token warriors....the game is changing .....do you need two enforcers on a team?.....anyhow..let's hold nonis accountable too....and don't forget that Carlyle was not his hire but burke's.....soooo???????justsaying......
@mikeintokyo Hi Mike, Me I have !
@mikeintokyo All trades and signings come with risk and just because an ex-Leaf is playing well on another team does not mean that he'd be doing the same with the Leafs.....different team mates, different coach and different systems. A traded player isn't a bad player.....just means they didn't fit within our coach's system and team. To assume we would be getting the same production out of these players is grass is always greener syndrome.....no two teams are the same.....apples and oranges.
@Yaknowwhat @wendelsway1 @mikeintokyo This is one thing that really pisses me off.....and those that make it their mission to post every time Grabo or MacA get a point borders on trolling........especially when we're not playing well. I'm a Leafer....so I don't give a flying fuck about what exLeafs are doing....and if I did, I wouldn't whine about it, as there is no changing it...they're gone....bitching about it isn't gonna bring them back or help our Leafs. Rant over....thanks for listening.....lol :)
@Yaknowwhat @loomx @mikeintokyo Burke got lucky. Franson and Fraser played really well but it was up to Nonis to realize they were playing really sheltered minutes and that their play was getting worse as the season went on. He did nothing. So it's either a management issue where Nonis failed to recognize the lack of talent he had or a coaching issue where the players are tuning out Carlyle or he's just not capable of getting the best out of the players....or both.
Ok, we need to see the big picture here. Keep your 3 best offensive Dmen, Dion, Gardiner, Rielly. Keep your best producing forwards, Kessel, JVR, Kadri, and Bolland. Make a decision on the goalie for the future. You can't keep playing yoyo with the guys, they need stability. The rest of the team, revamp " ALL OF THEM ". Make sure getting big bodied players for the replacements is a goal. It's strikes my as odd that RC mentioned how big St Louis players were. Nonis needs to get on this yesterday. This, in my opinion would be a proper purging for the team and addresses the changes needed for the future, playing in the modern NHL.
Also i wonder if our average height has gone down since last yr.? And how it compares to other teams?
@deedrag And where are you finding replacements better than Lupul, Kuli, Clarkson, Raymond, Bozak, Franson and Gunnarson? We are not in rebuild through the draft mode and trades are not easy to come by, Free Agents are expensive and look what happened when we paid the piper in Free Agency (Clarkson).
Morning Guys.....everybody still with us this morning?...lol I just keep telling myself that things are never quite as bad as they seem.....vaping also helps....
@wendelsway1 hey WW, didn't see the game last night but it does seem as if we've hit a low here
@wendelsway1 Morning WW, no worries we step up Saturday, it will be the Black and Blue Hawks, by the time we are done with them !!!!!
@Dangle_My_Berries @wendelsway1 Yes we have.....but the beauty of Leafs Nation is, once they start winning some games, and they will......we'll all be singing their praises......being a Leafer sure isn't for the fainthearted.......Cappy's back next game, and boy oh boy, does he have his work cut out for him with this bunch......open up a can of whoopass, Dion!!
I gotta get me one of those :)
Team officially lost me last night..gone to the dark side :(
@wendelsway1 Maybe that's what the boys are missing?
