Maple Leafs look to end embarrassing losing streak vs. Vancouver Canucks

After a Sunshine State road trip, the Toronto Maple Leafs are back at home after playing their worst game of the year (Panthers), followed by one of their better games of the year (Lightning).

The Maple Leafs (7-2-1) are the second-hottest team in the league over the past 10 games, while the struggling Vancouver Canucks (3-7-0) have the 3rd worst record over the same time frame. Vancouver has been outscored 23-10 while losing six games in regulation, good for the club’s longest slide since dropping eight in a row from Jan. 9-31, 2009. The Canucks haven’t lost 7 in a row since the 1998-1999 season. Vancouver looks from the outside in on the playoffs picture, presently sitting in 9th place and in a dog fight to make the playoffs for the first time in a long time. Such is the case with a team that has seen their aging core falter and contending window slammed firmly on their fingers, as Mike Gillis and company look to see where it all went wrong; their retool-on-the-fly blowing up in his face, with no end in sight.

After playing a lacklustre game against the Florida Panthers, the Maple Leafs rebounded by playing a great game against the Tampa Bay Lightning—a team directly in front of them in the standings and made the 4pt game a crucial win when the Leafs needed it most. After the 2 horse race at the top of the East (Pittsburgh, Boston), it is a very tight with 4 teams (Lightning, Habs, Leafs, Rangers) within 2pts of each other.

Hopefully Roberto is asking himself, how do they get all those letters on his jersey re van Reimsdyk as he watches him tip a couple past him.

This is what I wanted the roster to be heading into this season before we made moves:

JVR-Bozak-Kessel

Lupul-Kadri-Kulemin

Macarthur-Colborne-Frattin

Ashton-McClement-D'amigo/Orr

Gunnarson-Phaneuf

Gardiner-Franson

Fraser-Liles

Holzer

Reimer

Scrivens

Interesting to compare to where we ended up, props to Nonis for signing Raymond, trading for Bolland, Gleason, Holland and Bernier.

Karlsson is -1 on that last goal.   And take that Healy with the "Karlsson is the best player in the game"

Hope Hughson has to watch his beloved Canucks lose their 7th in a row and to the Maple Leafs, no less.

@Belfour20  According to Healy Karlsson should play 60 mins a game and will be amazing on the PK

@wendelsfist  Nearly a -2 on another play where he left Wiercock (sp) alone in front of the net.

@DWCMLHS @Cameron19  Sens looking forward to the break.  Fuck, I hope the Leafs don't lay an egg tonight, but I feel like they probably will.

@Belfour20 @Bruffins

big thing is how wrong I was with Colborne and Franson

And this is just going with what he had, not suggesting trades

@Jmessih  Yeah we also have Parrot and Toutant who are great too. Almost a shame that there isn't more medals to be given out in slopestyle.

@Jmessih  Yep, the fact that he got shafted in the quarterfinals too and had to run in the semis just impresses me more. Having to fight through the pack while favouring that rib is incredible. Super proud to be Canadian today. That kid and our country in that sport have a bright future.

I thought Colborne looked great in the playoffs, watched him a bunch on the Marlies too. Always thought he could be a good player if he realized he was 6'6.

@17Forever @Optimustic  4 - 0 and we lost Bolland to boot.  You said it when you said "redemption".  Revenge is another word that comes to mind.

@Optimustic @17Forever  They killed us last time.  I want redemption tonight. So should they !!  I hate Van !!  Would rather be beaten by Mon.

Optimustic
Optimustic

@17Forever @Optimustic  I usually do too, but tonight I feel a lot more optimistic because the record between the Nucks and Leafs is also lopsided.   The Leafs should feel that the time to reverse the trend in now.

@Optimustic @17Forever  i hate meeting teams on losing streaks. We seem to always be the answer to what ails all others. So annoying !
