A dominant showing for a 1-0 scoreline, the only thing still missing from this total team performance by Team Canada was a little more finish, although Jonathan Quick was fantastic. The gold medal game goes Sunday morning at 7 a.m. EST vs. Alfredsson (BOO) and Team Sweden.
Hockey history in the making this afternoon in Sochi.
Go Canada Go (with strong performances from Kessel and JvR indivdually).
Pretty interesting graphic here:
Not that it means much in the context of one game. This is going to be something.
Jonathan Quick will leave Sochi empty handed, but not quietly.
Humiliated after a 5-0 loss to Finland in the Olympic bronze-medal hockey game Saturday, the U.S. goaltender harshly criticized his team’s effort a day after losing to Canada in the semifinals.
“It shouldn’t be too hard,” he told NBC. “We do that all year long. We’re professionals. We play back-to-backs all year long.
“There’s no reason we show up and not piss a drop.”
Quick also took responsibility for his own play.
“My job is to stop the puck, and I didn’t do that very well,” the Los Angeles Kings goalie said. He gave up all five goals Saturday on 29 shots. “Team effort. We weren’t good.”
Quick put in a remarkable performance Friday against the Canadians – he stopped 36 of 37 shots – but received no offensive support as the Americans were shut out in their last two games.
Could Leo Komarov Return To The Leafs In The Off Season?
so....i was golfing yesterday in palm springs, CA. ended up getting paired up with a couple of guys from philly. first thing they said when they found out i was from Toronto is "how the hell did your team convince ours that Schenn for JVR was a fair trade?" made me think of what an awesome trade that was and one that will define us moving forward as JVR grows into the best power forward in the game.
i asked him how Schenn is doing and he said 'you know...he's okay....he keeps making us think he might be real good one day....or he may just always be okay.' then he said....'but boy is he slow'.
so there ya go. a feel good story for the olympic break.
man i hope kessel and JVR aren't sticking around for closing ceremonies or gold medal game. i hope they are on a plane right now headed back here to start resting up. we're gonna need 'em.
Marlies on at 3 pm today. It's on Rogers, if you can find it, if not, it can be found online if you want it bad enough.

This looks good on Burke with how they handled their player selections. Fourth is all they deserve, though I doubt their hearts we're in this one.
@DeclanK i bloody hope so.
@Bruffins I go with Benn as a power winger to play with Kadri.
I'd seen JVR play live about six times before the trade and I started praying when the rumours started about a possible deal.
@rustynail Yeah and both finished out of the medals.
@wiski Russia, Finland Canada. America, 2 goals. When it came to tough teams, they couldn't handle it. Too much flash, not enough character players on that team.
@Gilbey93 Doc? It hurts when I do this. Then don't do that.
@Gilbey93 see a doctor
@theacs1966 Burke didn't pick the team
@Burtonboy When is the trade thaw?
@Xxxxxnew Possibly. I wasn't really thinking about anyone here. There was a lot of those comments/thoughts out in the media and average joe's
@Bruffins Or was it Neal...ah who gives a shit either of them with Kadri would be amazing.
All burke said was if you want an intensity guy, ryan isn't that player, but if you want a game breaker Ryan is that type. Burke haters jumped on it because, well, they are who they are.
