Carter Ashton’s hat trick was the difference in a 5-2 Marlies win over the Lake Erie Monsters on Sunday afternoon.

 

Another player responding well to his demotion, Jerry D’Amigo added another assist (he’s been playing at a point-per-game pace for the last 12) in today’s win. Greg McKegg added two helpers while Brandon Kozun and TJ Brennan rounded out the scoring.

The Toronto Marlies defeated the Lake Erie Monsters, AHL affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche, by a score of 5-2 this afternoon at Ricoh Coliseum.
Carter Ashton opened the scoring just 53 seconds into the game on his 11th goal of the season. Ashton’s second goal of the game would give Toronto a 2-0 lead midway through the middle frame. Lake Erie would tie the game before the end of the period with Joey Hishon scoring at even strength and Mike Sgarbossa tallying on the powerplay. Carter Ashton completed the hat-trick just over six minutes into the third period to give the Marlies a one-goal lead. T.J. Brennan and Brandon Kozun added insurance markers to give the Marlies a 5-2 victory.
