@jonasTSN1050: Asked if he'd been concussed in the past, Joffrey Lupul paused, grinned and said "I can't remember."
Brodeur on the Vancouver goalie disaster:
"“To have two of the top 10 goalies in the league, and you turn around 12 months later and you don’t have one of them?” Martin Brodeur asked aloud, in conversation with the Vancouver Province on Friday. “That is a little strange.”
The stats guys at the ACC really are generous. According to nhl.com we have 8 players with over 100 hits including Joffrey Lupul and Nazem Kadri. I know Kadri hits, but there's no way he and Lupul have that many. Gardiner with 86 hits? Rielly with 82? I know it's not that important but it shows the unreliability of a stat like hits.
of all the great young d-men in the league would you trade morgan R for any? For me , the only one i would take would be seth jones
With Bernier prob out for this week, what happens if Wash or Det take runs at Reimer? I hope not only Gleason but other players will step in immediately
@Murph2417 sundays eh! lazy pei sundays
@wiski just get home to April to celebrate...
@Burtonboy Would love to get Couturier. Broke that PP up several times.
@Burtonboy I wonder who will sign Niskanen this summer, and what that contract will look like.
@loomx Well, they are definitely generous on hits, but I think we're also a more physical team than most fans are willing to acknowledge. Maybe not punishing teams with hits, but we're pretty consistently physical, outside of Raymond and Kessel. They're also super "generous" about giveaways, so it balances out.
@loomx why not- 60 games- 20 shifts.. 2 hits a game? one per 10 shifts?.. forechecking?
@wiski Sparks and Gibson will share the net.
@BrandonCheema There are a few guys potentially in the same category as him. Jones, Trouba, Maatta, Murray, Lindholm. He is a Leaf through and through though - wouldn't trade him for any of the above for that reason. Wish we could pair him with someone like Trouba for the next decade though.
@CanuckUKinToronto Well I hope all hell breaks loose! The insurance of having Reimer still here has paid off IMO. I would hope the guys know that if Reimer goes down too then this team is fucked. They may hold on for a playoff spot but come playoff time... Eep!
since we don't need Orr and McLaren types we'll have to let the league protect us
with 7 defensemen dressed Gleason has a green light to administer judgement. but it's a shame all that pressure has to fall on a small few.
@Gilbey93 And Timonen and Streit are getting pretty old, so they're kind of like Markov in that they have great and terrible nights. Mason having a fantastic year, but he's done that before and then not followed through. MacDonald is looking like a great pickup for them though.
@Loric76 get your camera phone ready
@Murph2417 3 EST .. not 3 your time
when forwards start coming back harder and everyone has to fight for space. tough, shot-blocking D - the more the merrier.
One thing that would be easy enough to do would be to separate defensive zone hits (bad) with offensive zone hits (good). I don't think there are a ton of neutral zone hits in todays game, as that's not an area where you'd ever like to get burned making an open ice hit, or, like Subban, backing into guys, missing, and creating an odd man rush for no reason.
That would be a good exercise. I bet 70% of the Leafs hits are Dzone hits from trying to get the puck back.
we're talking about protecting our goalie, and that's a little different than all the guys standing up for one another all over the rest of the ice.
guys aren't going to be afraid to come at Reimer hard. all the scrums and fights just aren't going to deter anyone.
we don't have a Chara to look into a player's soul. Orr settled people down once upon a time.
we can stand up and defend Reimer all we want. but once the damage is done, it's done. there can be the threat from the league, a threat from a guy like Gleason, or a threat from a guy like Bodie exacting the same revenge on the opposition's goalie i suppose. but our team toughness isn't going to save Reimer. at least that's how i feel.
be nice to have Gleason and Fraser (like last year) both protecting that crease.
i get it. but do you think we're team tough enough to make any other team stop to think about it? no way.
we have a few guys who can deal with a few guys running through the crease, but there's so little to be afraid of on our team.
what team is going to not come hard at us? and who's sending the message back?
Ranger, as strong and tough as he is...has never been in a fight to my memory. that's just not the kind of guy he is.
like i said, we'll need the refs and the league to protect us, or hope Gleason's on the ice if someone decides to take a liberty.
is that a group that would deter a guy like Wilson? team toughnes is almost ok, but it's not imo. some of the players on your list are just better when they don't have to think about policing anything and some of them aren't even able to even a score if they want to.
