Shark Club Game Day: Game #79, Jets at Maple Leafs

Shark Club Game Day: Game #79, Jets at Maple Leafs

1717

A window of opportunity is open just a crack after last night’s last-second loss by Columbus.

Now the Leafs have to do their part. A win by the Leafs here and the Blue Jackets will start feeling the pressure.

With Bernier out for the rest of the regular season, James Reimer has his chance to quickly erase memories of the five-game losing streak that came to define a tumultuous season of tough treatment and underperformance. Hopefully, the Leafs give him a fighting chance unlike a couple of those games during his five-game losing streak. This would be a great story if Reimer can seize this opportunity in the next four games.

Joffrey Lupul will be a game time decision with a lower body injury. One imagines Randy Carlyle sticks by 11 forwards/7 defencemen with Paul Ranger on the backend after his goal and stellar defensive play on Thursday versus the Bruins.

It’s or die on HNIC for the final home game of the season.

No Evander Kane for the Jets (healthy’d).

All this shit started when a certain MLHS blogger officially declared us playoff bound.  Not mentioning any names.  Mostly because I can't remember exactly who it was. lol

The reason the Leafs make so many mistakes because all the players are playing like deer in headlights.  The defense are continually giving away the puck because they are not passing while in full motion skating up ice.  There has to be a defensive framework to the way the team plays that breeds confidence in their own defensive zone.  They are skating around like chickens with their heads cut off.  I don't understand it.  Randy Carlyle was a Norris winning defenseman.  He has won a Stanley Cup as a coach.  Are the players just not listening?  There must be something wrong in the team chemistry.  For one thing they don't have a strong Captain with great leadership qualities.  Think of Keon, Armstrong, Sittler, Gilmour, Clark, Sundin just to name a few that could pick up a team by the bootstraps.

I can deal with a team that gives it all they have and loses....thats fine.....but a team that repeatedly mails it in and collapses in key situations? Thats unacceptable and goes deeper than coaching...

Blame the coach ...he is part of the problem.....but there are just too many guys on this team who just dont give a fuck....come out flat at home fighting for your lives? Pathetic!

Nonis should've fired RC last year right after that collapse in game 7. Leiw would've been impressed with his ballsy move and players would've been on notice that way. There would've been no excuses for them this year. Now he's created doubt with his actions. Are the players at fault? Are the coaching staff at fault? Are management at fault? Leiw will be on there backs from now on just like the media is with this result. Leiw has the right idea, we need guys that can thrive in this media filled, super critical, a lot of past history to live up to type of environment.

When I heard management on Toronto radio this week saying that getting outshot wasn't that bad because "4 of the last 8 games we lost we outshot the other team", I finally knew we were doomed as fans...completely inept top to bottom... We are on pace to be one of the most outshot teams EVER... In a must win game we got out shot 2 to 1 and our captain peanut think we got out worked....pass the single malt, ive got 6 more months to sober up

Gotta hand it to the Habs.  I once thought the Leafs were a far better team.  Not anymore.  Miles apart.  Must be nice to be a fan of an organization that actually has a clue.  Here's hoping the Habs take down the Bruins in the playoffs.

It doesn't have to be thcaptain who does that. Gilmour did was Clark was captain, Roberts did when sundin was the captain. Salming and macdonald would when sittler was here.

@felixjvd  All of the named Captains above could do that, except Sardine.  They never won shit with him in the lineup.

@GeorgeCastanza Break out a bottle of something with her and start drinking until she says yes.

@deedrag  They should have got rid of Reimjunk at the same time too.

@Welder24  na. the schabs suck.  They have the support of officiating more than ever with almost %50 of officials being fellow countrymen.

@Welder24 @felixjvd

Actually, they won just as much as they did with Gilmour and Clark and Sittler. Didn't think about that did you?

@Welder24 @deedrag That falls on Nonis now. He let his coach destroy his confidence and devalue his worth.

@Welder24 @rockydundas@felixjvd

Clark, Sittler and Gilmour as good as they were, never got the team into the finals...going as far as the semi's. Teams with Sundin went just as far. At the end of his career, management was in a mess and he was surrounded by AHLers and secondary players....and Vesa Toskola. Are you talking about what the players physically won here? I don't think so.

Welder24

@rockydundas @Welder24 @felixjvd  They won the right to be revered.  Sardine stuck it to the fans on his way out.  Traitor.  Doesnt deserve to even be mentioned in the same breath as Keon, Sittler, Clark, Gilmour.  But you're free to worship him, and keep drinking MLSE koolaid.

But it's the core guys who need to be setting the tone that it's not acceptable.

@Greg Fenton Sadly Greg they are all to blame. Shit goes up the ladder also in this case.

Which is very hard to fix unless you do a rebuild.

@deedrag @Welder24  Disagree.  Gotta have a certain psyche to be a # 1 in this league.  Reimjunk doesn't have it.  Dude smiles after he loses.  I've seen enough of that.

@wiski @ingy56 @Cloud09  Oh, I am far from a big Dion supporter. He started off good this year but has tailed off in a huge way. I sure hope he's injured because if he's that bad we are in trouble.
