    Sigh. When does camp open?

    Shafty  September. September…

  • steele123

    Is it September yet?

  • Burtonboy

The PPP article on Carlyle is an eye opener . Read it yesterday

  • Mitch_S2

Burtonboy To me the ideal situation is Carlyle changing his coaching style.
I dont like letting the players off the hook for tuning him out.

  • Burtonboy

Mitch_S2 Burtonboy  Bringing Carlyle back is not even remotely close to be ideal IMO. They guy has has never shown any willingness to change unless he’s backed into a corner with no choice

  • Burtonboy

Mitch_S2 Burtonboy  Besides its his responsibility to hold them accountable . A word he doesn’t seem to understand or even know how to spell.

  • Mitch_S2

Burtonboy Mitch_S2  Ideal being him changing with the team.
I’m just saying they always encourage, actually demand growth from the players not sure why that wouldnt apply to the coaching staff.

  • Zep2

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. The Bruins will rue the dat they got rid of Kessel. Now uyou can add Seguin to the list

  • Mitch_S2

Zep2 Who really cares who you give up if you continue to be one of the best teams in the league?

  • MaxwellHowe

The Habs are looking formidable and its going t snow today.  This spring really sucks

  • Mitch_S2

How about this for a team full of centers

To Col: Cody Franson, 2014 1st (8th) Select one of the many big talented wingers Richtie, Perlini

    To Tor: O’Reilly

Gives the leafs a dog on the puck, one of the league leaders in takeaways, a selke candidate at what 21?
Also avoids the whole Clarkson-scenario with a guy like Stastny.

  • Zep2

Mitch_S2 Zep2  We want to be one of the best in the league, that out next step. Theirs is to win the Cup. Not having a Kessel or Seguin is a mistake IMHO

  • Burtonboy

CanuckUKinToronto Burtonboy Mitch_S2  I’m not as concerned about those type of mistakes . They happen to every team in every game. Unfortunately it does happen to us more then others it seems  Its maddening to me that he continually allowed them to get away with not not playing the system. I wonder if he even had one sometimes but I’ll assume he did. That’s what had to be enforced from the start of the season and he failed miserably imo.

  • Zep2

    MaxwellHowe  Habs are playing TB

  • Zep2

Burtonboy Mitch_S2  Even backed into a corner he played Smithson and Smith more than Holland

  • ConnorCrisp

I’m adopting the red wings for the playoffs. They do everything I wish we did, with less talent.

  • dlb meh

    amazing goal?  lol
kids do that in Novice.  and, goalies save that shot in Novice and that never makes the highlights.
    what a crwod.

  • Zep2

ConnorCrisp  The Leafs under Burke and Nonis are going down the right path. Detroit leans heavily on Grand Rapids to graduate players

As much as we bitch about the Leafs current team, there is now a commitment to development.

The Marlies are again solidly in the playoffs and  the are a handful of guys who could move onto the Leafs roster in the 2 years

  • dlb meh

55 seconds in or so.  #40.  whatev lol
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YsA9ascUypU

  • Zep2

dlb meh  Riemer would have had that. Just like the 3 against Mtl

  • dlb meh

    ConnorCrisp
compare there bottom 6 with our bottom 6 and i think it might reveal the answer.  who’s got the list?

  • dlb meh

    Zep2
goaltending has got ot be 80% of winning.  a couple months ago i would have said half.

  • dlb meh

    Burtonboy
did the PPP article collect information from interviews that we haven’t heard before?  or did they try to proove an opinion about something they have no inside information on?

  • Mitch_S2

dlb meh ConnorCrisp Injuries aren’t an excuse, everyone has to deal with them.
We didn’t deal with them effectively and Carlyle had a big role in that.

That being said Bolland for a full year is huge, as well not losing Komarov would have been big. This problem should be corrected over the next few years as we being to graduate some big wingers.  Broll is ideal, as well as D’amigo.

And even with all the Clarkson hate he can still be a very effective player.

  • Burtonboy

dlb meh Burtonboy  I have no idea . You would have to ask the guy who wrote it . There is nothing in the article that was not known before but when someone pulls all the info together in one article its has a bigger impact .

  • dlb meh

    Burtonboy
i’ve made it half way through, and i’ve lost interest.
there’s no perspective.  it doesn’t account for players coming in or out of te lineup, or changing roles, or anything other than what they want it to.
Kulemin alone can explain the counter arguement.  when he had his great year everything was rosey.  he didn’t repeat and the coach didn’t change right away.

    Would love this kid.

  • dlb meh

    CanuckUKinToronto
we have to remember that Leafs team was full of veterans top to bottom.  this Leafs team has a different makeup.  we just finished a year where benching a player might mean replacing him with the 7th guy on the organization’s depth chart in that position.

  • Burtonboy

    dlb meh Burtonboy  Whatever

  • dlb meh

    Burtonboy dlb meh
    that’s how i feel too

  • http://theNHLarena.com/ leafersutherland

We typically look outside for help, but what if TJ Brennan were re-signed in order to replace Cody Franson?

I think when the powerplay went south in the later half of the season, he should have been called up for his shot alone.

  • dlb meh

    Mitch_S2
as good a goal scorer i’ve seen based on that 6 minutes

  • Knights2Leafs

    Zep2 ConnorCrisp
That’s why I don’t want to see a Leafs roster overhaul.  Our top 6 forwards (assuming we are stuck with Clarkson and he plays top 6) aren’t that bad.  It’s because they are not complemented by a strong bottom 6 which IMO we have the pieces for in the system for now and in the future.  We had them this year, but Randy chose not to use them.  His call and now I hope he gets what we deserve.

  • Burtonboy

dlb meh CanuckUKinToronto  So how in the name of god do you ever expect to get your message across if you don’t take away ice time? If a player isn’t listening its the only tool a coach has to enforce what he wants done. We can plainly see the results of not holding everyone accountable to the same standards

  • Knights2Leafs

    Zep2 ConnorCrisp
and that’s assuming Komarov doesn’t come back and I think there’s a good chance he will.

  • Knights2Leafs

    leafersutherland
I agree but hadn’t we run out of callups by then?

  • dlb meh

    leafersutherland
a team that already has a solid top 4 could use Brennan i think.
i’d focus our money on the top 4 and if Brennan wants to sign to play here cheap, then maybe there’s a fit…it might depend on when he gets the first good offer from another team and where we’re at in our decision making.

  • dlb meh

    Burtonboy
depends on the message and depends on the the rest of the roster.
what’s the point in sitting player A if player B is no better, unless you decide to bring up the kids to start taking jobs (and that’s one way).
but our team now has committed to not rushing prospects along just to help out the big club.  when Burns was in town, Eastwood and Manderville were already young veterans playing behind the influence of guys like Foligno and Krusher.
sitting Gilmour to play Berg or Zezel isn’t the same as dumping JVR for Leivo or Lupul for Ashton.  or Kessel for Raymond or whatever.

  • http://theNHLarena.com/ leafersutherland

Knights2Leafs leafersutherland  Couldn’t have, given that Holland and Granberg were called up once all was lost.

  • dlb meh

how about Gardiner to EDM for the 3rd pick?
is there any deal that could be made there?

  • http://theNHLarena.com/ leafersutherland

    CanuckUKinToronto leafersutherland  Unfortunately, I agree.

  • HHT

Poulin says TJ Brennan will be a FT NHL player.  Thoughts?  Anyone seen him play?

  • Burtonboy

HHT  He certainly has the tools offensively . If he can round out his game a bit more defensively he has an excellent chance to be a full time NHL player IMO.

  • dlb meh

    Mitch_S2
it’s all just optimism until they put doubt to rest, but there is a pretty decent group to draw from this year for a couple spots and for a couple more in another year’s time.
D’Amigo, Ashton, Ryan, Hartikainen, Holland (and what would a full year of Bolland-Clarkson could accomplish together in a shutdown role with some help).  Komarov?
Broll, Biggs, Carrick, Devane, Ross (hopeful, right?)
ultimately, we need to do more and hope they work out.

  • dlb meh

    Burtonboy
he’s physical enough, too.  just gets caught out of position too often, typically because he’s thinking of how he can get the puck instead of who’s behind him who he should be worried about.
kinda like the knock on Ranger early in the year.  except Brennan doesn’t make up for it by punishing guys in front of the net or winning as many battles along the boards.
still young, and i think the players are all to rememeber what got them there in the first place while they work on the rest of their game, so a slow learning curve doesn’t scare me away from him.

  • Mcost61

If (when) Carlyle gets fired, the make up of team changes and Brennan may want to stay, I’m sure there is talk of why young players were used sparingly, if at all

  • Mcost61

    Good morning folks

  • HHT

Very good idea. And if that doesn’t work, we could trade down if we can get a roster player – and pick McCann or Tuch.

  • Jordan29

All this talka bout Brennan, but every said he was probably the worst player defensively in the system
