Five players have been cut from the big club roster, taking the number in camp down to 41.

In addition to goaltender Rob Madore returning to Marlies camp, Mitch Marner has been returned to junior while Curtis Glencross, Mark Fraser and Devin Setoguchi have been cut loose from their Player Tryout Agreements.

Of no surprise here is Mitch Marner returning to junior for the 2015-16 season. He’s going to be rejoining an absolute powerhouse in London, and will be spending the year as their number one center. In addition, he’ll feature prominently at the World Juniors in the New Year. Go light it up, Mitch, and get bigger and stronger.

Mike Babcock threw Devin Setoguchi a final bone by giving him a look on a line with JvR and Bozak last night. He generated one shot on goal and saw his ice time slashed once his line got scored on early in the second period (11 minutes total TOI), playing just one shift in the third period.

Curtis Glencross getting cut loose is a little surprising this early, but the numbers game is so tight, as you can tell by the roster below. He seemed to outplay a few players who have contracts, but the nature of a PTO is that it’s not a totally fair competition – you’ve got to stand out and give the coaching staff little option but to create a spot for you.

Brad Boyes remains in contention for a contract. He has created scoring chances in each game (including the game winner in OT on Tuesday vs. Montreal) he’s played in and looked quite good on a line with Peter Holland and Shawn Matthias last night, as that trio generated some good possession shifts.

Update: Boyes has been signed, Fraser cut.
