Keith Aulie has been injured indefinitely. Ryan Getzlaf will be a part of Team Canada. Brian Burke talks the favorite in the tournament, and the NHL has released its attendance records of this season. The numbers are shocking, read on to learn more of each of these brief news stories.
Alright, it’s not a blockbuster, but I found it funny. Reports suggest Montreal acquired Dominic Moore from the Panthers for, you guessed it, another 2nd round pick. He’s becoming the 2nd round pick man, for some reason. He has 8 goals and 9 assists this season. Knowing Poni is commanding a 2nd round pick and a roster player or a prospect, perhaps Poni is worth a 1st in comparison.
Two Leafs players have food poisoning, so Nazem Kadri is an emergency call up for tonight’s game. No word as of what line he will be playing on just yet, but one thing is for sure: this will be an interesting sneak peak at what Kadri and Kessel could bring to the club next season.
This is the first episode of Midnight with Mike Aldred. On today’s show, Vesa Toskala discusses his role on the ice, his trade to the Anaheim Ducks and other wildly revealing perceptions of his life. Let’s just say things get a little out of control.

While the attention isn’t on the Leafs tonight, they will be looking to break the Senators longest winning streak in club history. Giguere is expected to get the nod tonight, and hopefully the Leafs can start off strong with great offensive pressure as they have in their previous two outings, but this time close it off with solid defensive coverage in the third period.

In the wake of the Kovalchuk trade, there’s another vicious elbow to the head that has rewarded an indefinite suspension in the QMJHL. Val D'Or Foreurs defenceman Marco Scandella has been suspended indefinitely for his elbow during Wednesday night's game.
The Carolina Hurricanes are closing in on a deal with the San Jose Sharks for Niclas Wallin, while Leafs fans were begging it was Rickard. Kovalchuk turns down $101M, while the Rangers pull out of the sweepstakes due to the asking price. Find out what the Thrashers wanted in return. Also, Dion Phaneuf has his own plan for the remainder of the Leafs regular season.
Seems that shoulder injury is worse than first thought. He shuts it down for the year as per Bob McKenzie. Yes. This time it’s legit.
“Our team doctors have recommended this after a determined effort to rehab the injury without surgery. Having this done immediately is the right thing to do for the Leafs. I am truly sorry that I will not be able to represent my country at the Olympics,” said Komisarek in a statement.
Has Garnet Exelby been dealt to the Los Angeles Kings? It's believed Toronto has acquired a 4th round pick for the defenceman. He was sat from the game for the entire third period, and there are reports that suggest Los Angeles has acquired him for depth going on their way to the post-season.
Update: TSN is reporting no deal has been reached at this time.

The Leafs took to the ice today in preparation for Martin Brodeur tomorrow night. It featured some interesting one on one drills for a few key players, and one defenceman who claims the future of his career and the Maple Leafs would be better suited if he were traded.
Tonight, the Toronto Maple Leafs play host to the Los Angeles Kings. Fortunately for the Leafs, they are back at home where they have a better record (9-10-5) than when playing as the visitors (8-16-5) this season. Unfortunately for the Leafs, the Kings have a better away record (15-10-1) than they do when playing as the host team (14-9-2)… also Kopitar. Yeah.
Those were the words of Chief disciplinarian Raymond Bolduc after handing out the ruling on Patrice Cormier's hit. The forward, who elbowed Mikael Tam of the Quebec Remparts in the head, received a suspension for the remainder of the QMJHL regular season, as well as the playoffs. The elbow sent Tam into convulsions, followed by a visit to the hospital in which he was treated for brain trauma and broken teeth.
Tonight at 7:00, the Toronto Maple Leafs will visit the Florida Panthers in a battle against former Maple Leaf, Bryan McCabe, and his Panthers. Also, Brian Burke addressed the media regarding his outlook towards the remainder of the season, as well as what has been highly regarded as a “double deadline” year with the Olympic break and the trade deadline.
I would first like state that I am addressing this rumor because it is, in fact, circulating around the league that Toronto is interested in the Atlanta Thrashers’ sniper Ilya Kovalchuk. Yes, this rumor did come to light due to an Eklund blog, but no, it is not fake. In fact, every team in the league would love to get their hands on Kovalchuk. So there you have it, the rumor is true, but it was an easy one to pinpoint by Eklund because every single team in the league understands that Kovalchuk is available, and every single team in the league would love to have him on their powerplay. It’s as simple as that. Now to the non-obvious part.

Team Canada World Junior's captain Patrice Cormier is under investigation by the QMJHL for his questionable hit against Quebec Remparts defenceman Mikael Tam. The video of the hit is below and looks as if Cormier came off the bench and delivered an elbow to Tam's head at center ice. Click here to view the video. The hit takes place at the 1:00 mark of the clip. Warning: The video does show convulsions after the hit and should not be watched by those who are faint of heart.
Tyler Bozak now has 4 points in three NHL games as a Maple Leafs, and one of those points came last night in a 4-0 victory for the Maple Leafs over the Philadelphia Flyers. Bozak – known for his playmaking capabilities and hockey intelligence – was nothing short of flashy and brilliant on a play that few talented players can make. In one swift motion, he turned Ole-Kristian Tollefson inside out before beating Michael Leighton clean top shelf.
Team Canada has officially released their Olympic roster, but there are a few surprises as to who was left out. Find out why Todd Bertuzzi and Andrew Raycroft were not selected! Click here to read the article.
