- The Toronto Star has an interesting article that mentions the Leafs would be at least open to talk of a second NHL team in the Greater Toronto Area.
- As Mike talked about in his blog, it appears that Ron Wilson will be riding the hot hand with goaltender Jonas Gustavsson until a change needs to be made.
- There are a few preliminary whispers of a possible deal involving a swap of netminders between the Leafs and the Ducks, with Vesa Toskala’s expiring contract heading down south and J.S. Giguere reunited with GM Brian Burke and goaltending coach Francois Allaire.
- Last, but not least, I’ve got a pair of last minute purples available to tomorrow’s night contest against the Wild. A friend of mine was unable to attend and asked me to post it up on MLHS that he’s willing to let them go for cost. Just like last time, this offer is on a first come first serve basis for those reaching me at my email below.

@Charlie
No Way I do that trade. Thats ridiculous, Bobby Ryan has to be throwin in there too.
November 10th, 2009 at 11:11 am
He IS in there!! Do you mean Perry?
November 10th, 2009 at 11:12 am
Let’s see… how’s about this:
Toskala and a SIXTH
for
Giguere, Ryan, Getzlaf and Perry
.
There, that seems better. We get our top line and get rid of Toskala’s contract and a good backup for Monster. They get rid of JSG’s contract, plus the other three and now they have money to sign Hiller. It’s all perfect.

@ Charlie
Are you fucking crazy man.
No way we throw in a 7th. Unless Perry comes back too.
Wake up man!
November 10th, 2009 at 11:13 am
Yah I meant Perry haha…talk about a failed joke.
November 10th, 2009 at 11:15 am
@ Charlie
In all seriousness though, your trade proposal is about as logical as the rest.
November 10th, 2009 at 11:19 am
@ Trevor
Haha, no worries. Fits in perfectly with the “real” trade ideas.
.
@ TT
I know, scary as it is.
.
@ Anyone who includes Ryan in a trade
Firstly, no offense. Secondly, Ryan is the type of guy you don’t trade as incentive. JSG’s contract has one more year after this, they’re not getting rid of a top 3 guy like Ryan just to get someone to eat the contract, that’s ridiculous. He’s a guy you eat a LOT of contract for, not one that gets lost because of a contract.

@LeafsRyan: Toskala+Finger+conditional pick for JSG is just bull goose looney.
November 10th, 2009 at 12:05 pm
I really believe Finger is too good to be a salary dump in that JSG trade. We have tons coming off the books July 1. I would rather wait and make a trade when it becomes available, or trade someone else and move Finger up the depth chart.
November 10th, 2009 at 12:12 pm
@Charlie: That’s exactly what I thought. Right now we’re playing well. No need to dump Finger. An intelligent, useful trade sometime? Sure. For JSG? See above.
November 10th, 2009 at 12:16 pm
Why the fuck would any one want to add JSG to this team now? Give yourself a shake.
November 10th, 2009 at 12:33 pm
@ Bob
Yup… and something tells me Burke is in our school of thought.

I would trade Blake & Tlusty for Horton if Mattais came along.
-
Who cares if Blake is tearing it up right now… is he even considered to?? He is 37 years old with 2 years left on his contract, and is no where close to being a piece of the future team. He isn’t a major playoff performer, and the only reason he got 40 goals was because of Yashin feeding him the puck or him slapping his rebounds in. A one year wonder that’s all he is. Tlusty is doing extremely well in the AHL, but one has to wonder why he can’t transition his game at the NHL level. He can be a late bloomer like Antropov, but should they wait 6 to 8 years for him to develop into a solid second line player?? I’m sure he can develop into a solid player soon if he was played more often but obviously he won’t get his time here, with others higher up than him on the depth chart.
-
Toronto on the other hand receives a young rugged forward prospect with offensive potential in Matthais and they also receive a 24 year old power forward in Nathan Horton. Yeah he has been struggling in Florida, but so has the whole franchise. (May I add he has always finished in the top 3 or so for scoring in Florida ever since he’s been there) He is surrounded by shitty or under achieving players, what else is expected. Put him in front of his home town crowd and a big stage like the ACC and you will see what he can do, this 3rd overall draft pick (in the deepest draft) and his potential and abilities will shine through. He is exactly what Leafs are lacking and so desperately need to be a contender, a true power forward. Imagine a line of Kessel, Kadri or Bozak and Horton, Leafs future first line for years to come. They would have speed, playmaking abilities, power and nastiness (Horton), and all can finish. This is the only way I would accept Tlusty being traded, if a package of this calibre comes back, plus they lose that shit brick Blake.
-
Now the question is would the Leafs, with this trade proposal, you do that trade??
November 10th, 2009 at 2:39 pm
i love the blake and tlusty for horton idea. basically i would trade blake for anything at all to get rid of his contract, he’s worth absolutely nothing as far as i’m concerned. so basically it comes down to horton for tlusty which is a no-brainer
