You know the score: Predict the result and first scorer for tonight’s divisional match-up in Buffalo, be sure it’s right to win a ticket, and then read my blog “The Blame Game.”
EDIT: Includes current contest standings.
GFWE: Current Standings
Remember, the last game for this contest is this Saturday against the Penguins. We’ll be randomly drawing from the top 10 at that point and the three lucky winners will get to go with Ed to the January 14th game against the Flyers. Make sure you read the rules!

Oh well…
Stupid penalty kill. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
January 8th, 2010 at 10:02 pm
PK killed us tonight, thats it.
January 8th, 2010 at 10:03 pm
if they only knew the basics of killing a penalty
January 8th, 2010 at 10:03 pm
Look at it this way: RW publicly called out Kessel and the rest of the team for only playing when they’re down 2-0 and he proved his point tonight. Better effort by Kessel, hopefully the rest of the team sees their coach was right afterall.
In their defence, they did play a great 1st but the PK killed them all night.

Not sure why there wasnt a few calls there in the last 3 minutes?? There was a hook, a trip and an interference. How do little simple shitty calls get made (against not just Leafs) and then blatant calls like that get missed? Just dont get the NHL.
January 8th, 2010 at 10:04 pm
Brutal team,…just brutal
January 8th, 2010 at 10:04 pm
Once again waited until they were in too big a hole to come back from to compete.

@modernhipster
we can only hope
January 8th, 2010 at 10:04 pm
50 fucking shots and they still lose!
January 8th, 2010 at 10:05 pm
The more we suck the more we have the trade Kabs. Ya, I said it.
January 8th, 2010 at 10:05 pm
Everyone shouldn’t forget the 3 PP in a row we got at the beginning of the game. They score just one and it’s a tie game, never mind what getting the first goal could have done for their confidence.
January 8th, 2010 at 10:06 pm
I predicted with my buddy that we lose the game 4-2 and outshoot them 50-21. not a bad effort.

I swear someone in the NHL head office must have a bet on us going 30th and is commanding the refs to not call anything but the obviously blatant stuff… the refs hate us! It’s the work of the devil!
Also, don’t ask me why I have all these witchcraft and devil themes tonight… Even I, God, have no clue.

We’ve lost with over 60. It doesn’t surprise me.
During the Quinn years people would scream about the fact we never got more then like 25 shots a game…but you know what? We won those damn games…
It’s the team man! The players we have just plain suck at scoring.
January 8th, 2010 at 10:06 pm
well if they scored first its a totally different game to being with

Any playoff hopes are fading fast. We can realistically lose about 10 more games for the rest of the season.

@ leafs_17:
Whatever it is … 33 times out of 45 or something that they’ve been scored against first … is unacceptable.
January 8th, 2010 at 10:09 pm
I think it’s time to try Kaberle at centre with Kessel. What have we got to lose? Maybe put Whitey on the wing.
January 8th, 2010 at 10:10 pm
@DJ. I dont want to whine like a bitch about not getting calls but these were pretty obvious and directly in front of the official. I have watched games that players get called 175 ft from their nets with a stick that is “horizontal to the ice” and these are prime scoring areas and arent called.
Completely a bullshit league.

It is bullshit, has been for years. Calls made on the Leafs don’t get called against the opposition in the same freaking game. remember Blake’s 3 phantom calls 3games in a row? No other team gets that crap. One thing you have to remember is the NHL does not need the Leafs to win.
During the lockout there were 4 “poster teams” for having a salary cap. Guess what? 3 of the 4 make it to the semis. That’s some coincidence NHL.
The NHL is the only North American league that has the top money getters at the bottom of the food chain. How has that worked out?

He’s juggling the lines for tomorrow’s game against the Pens on his PS3
January 8th, 2010 at 10:31 pm
What is it going to take to get Tyler Bozak call up??
Let me help Jordan juggle the lines:
Stalberg – Bozak – Kessel
Ponikarovsky – Stajan – Kulemin
Blake – Mitchell – Stempniak
Hagman – Mayers – Orr
January 8th, 2010 at 10:33 pm
I think we should definitely try to make a trade for Jordan Staal. We could use a decent center plus he would boost our penalty kill immensely. He could give RW some pointers on how it should be done.
January 8th, 2010 at 10:33 pm
Tear up the game plan for the penalty kill and start again! It just doesn’t work. I like the idea of a high pressure approach. It couldn’t do much worse.
Keep in mind that when Wilson was in Washington and had the best PK in the league it was pre lock-out. That means that defencemen were able to put their stick on people in front of the net and clear the crease.
Furthermore, players could clutch and grab and hook and mildly interfere with the fore checkers, meaning that a d-man could often get back and clear the zone easier.
Let’s not forget as well that goaltenders could also be of more use because they could play the puck in all areas.
Also, the standard box that Wilson liked to employ in San Jose was a system that worked better against Western Conference teams, that for what ever reason seemed to move the puck better and faster when on the man advantage, unlike their Eastern Conference counterparts who Toronto plays the majority of their games against now.
Lastly, teams have been able to watch video and dissect Wilson’s penalty kill for years now. They know what’s coming and what to expect.
Doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results is the definition of insanity. Kinda like being a Leaf fan!

Some of these posts here got me remembering one of the biggest collapses the Leafs ever had.
It was a game against St. Louis and we were up by 5 goals (or so) Curtis Joseph was in net and it was the 3rd period.
We lost that game 6-5. We blew the third period. What was bizarre and troubling about that game were the sudden series of calls. I’m not saying the Leafs get uncalled for unfairly. We had our fair share of PP last night in the first and came out doing nothing.
That game – Toronto vs St. Louis in St. Louis – Wicks was the referee (I think)I think and he was making bizarre calls one after the other and the PP goals came from St. Louis. All in the third period. Anyone remember this game? It was the only game in my entire life that I felt that the Ref was out for the Leafs or something.
