Two Leafs players have food poisoning, so Nazem Kadri is an emergency call up for tonight’s game. No word as of what line he will be playing on just yet, but one thing is for sure: this will be an interesting sneak peak at what Kadri and Kessel could bring to the club next season.
This is also a matchup with Ron Wilson’s former club. The Sharks have been strong as of late, going 8-1-1 in their last ten. Both teams are coming off wins, with J.S. Giguere getting the 2nd star of the week with his back to back shutouts.
The Maple Leafs have confirmed via twitter that Kadri will be in the lineup tonight. It is believed he could take Ponikarovsky’s place on the top line to join Kessel and Bozak, though Ron Wilson would prefer to have a little size on that line. It all depends on which Leafs are sick and will not be eligible for tonight’s game.
As Per TSN.ca:
“The 19-year-old was called up on an emergency basis as Christian Hanson and Fredrik Sjostrom will both be sitting out with the flu. Kadri has 26 goals and 40 assists in 42 games with the OHL’s London Knights this season.”

Very true. I read somewhere that Sather won’t bury Redden because then he’d be admitting he made a mistake signing him. I don’t know how accurate that is, but if they were getting back some playoff help, perhaps?
But yeah, they are up there in richest.

Over 1300 posts. This will be my first. I think Kadri was alright his first game. About what I expected. I think he’s not NHL ready quite right yet and may possibly not be ready next year if he does not put on more weight.

Removing 2 UFA’s who will be gone next year anyway is a bad thing for the future? We don’t need a top 10 pick now because of Phaneuf? I disagree completely with that.
Agreed, Drury is overpaid. But He’s only on the books for 2 years, is a proven leader, and excellent face off guy, and would be a nice vet presence on a very young team. If the Leafs make the playoffs, who do they have that’s an accomplished vet they can fall back on? Giguere? Beauchemin?
Drury is playing in a crap role on a terrible team offensively. Having him feed Kessel with smart passes could be a great payoff too

agreed.. anyone who wants to give up on Gustavson is out of their mind and there’s no point in talking about because he’ll be re-signed. We’re set in goal and on D (barring the Kabby leaving and needing a 6th D-man)and we have so much depth in our youth and they’re all gaining experiene this year and more in the last 22 games…..

@ the_cause2000:
I would rather use the cap money on a player like Ryan, Staal or Horton who are proven rather then taking on a bad contract and a 1st rounder who will probably never be anywhere as good as the players mentioned. You just know Burke will land one of them in a kaberle deal… Adding Drury just doesn’t make any sense to me at all… it enables us from signing young players. I thought we were passed this stage of adding aging players with big contracts, I just don’t get it…

Sportsnet.ca reporting that Carter is in if Getzlaf can’t go in in the Olympic Tournament. I would have picked Stamkos, but I guess that’s why I’m a minor hockey coach!

Stamkos deserves it too… but does he have the versatility to play the wing? Not so sure. Carter makes sense because he can either play the 2nd line centre, or he can be a 1st line winger with Crosby. Depends where they put Staal I guess.

I agree, I am sure that’s what’s behind it. After they freeze the rosters you really need versatile players in case of injuries or different line matchups.

Best day EVER I had as a server was when Mike Toth and Jamie Campbell had their “awards” show and went to Montanas to eat before in their tuxedos. Classic.

@ ingy56:
Yup… The only thing is, it kinda seems silly to leave a top 5 goal scorer in the NHL of your roster. Only in Canada that’s for sure. He has more goals then Heatley, Kovalchuk, Semen, Parise… You can bank on Stamkos and Green being the centre of attention as to why they weren’t chosen if Canada doesn’t bring it home. Or wait they already are home haha.

I was at the game Monday, and I thought Kadri looked pretty good all things considered. He’s not ready for full-time duty yet though, and I wouldn’t be shocked if he spends a year back in the OHL, or possibly the AHL I suppose. I can honestly say I enjoyed watching every player on the ice throughout the game, something I couldn’t really say about prior games I’ve been to this season. Maybe there is actually reason for optimism?
