Joe Colborne Statistics & Scouting Report
Joe Colborne Scouting Report by Ian Dudgeon
An intriguing collection of size and skill in a playmaking centre. Flashes quick hands used to deliver soft passes or freeze goaltenders in close. Skating is somewhat underrated and stereotyped as a big man who doesn’t move well, he can accelerate well and create room for himself, but does lack a top gear to be a mobile threat at the NHL level. Struggled with consistency and level of effort in earlier years, has matured to the point where this is no longer an issue. Displays great vision of the ice, an effective playmaker, is improving in his awareness at finding teammates with hard tape to tape passes. Uses size and soft hands along with huge wingspan to protect the puck, making it very difficult for opponents to strip him of it. Has developed a physical game, using size to his advantage and leaning on defenders in close or in one-on-one situations. Will drive to the net with the puck and use a heavy stick to free up pucks. Able to kill penalties and provide reasonable coverage in the defensive zone, can get caught gliding and waiting for the transition.
Projection: 2nd line centre with upside
