Leafs/Bruins – 4-3 OT Win Live From ACC Press Row

by on March 9, 2010- 462 Comments

KULEMIN with the game winner, and that's all folks!!! Leafs win 4-3 in a thrilling overtime victory!

Now, wasn't that an appropriate Torontosaurus Rex?!

That was the Leafs first OT victory of the season. (1-9)

It feels like a spring day, almost like a playoff date.
This isn't a playoff game by any stretch .. There are some interesting scenarios playing out even before puck drop.

Here's the game thread ... you can also follow along on Twitter, @KatsHockey

This is the first game At home for newest Leaf, Luca Caputi (Now with his first goal as a Leaf!!).

This is the first game after the devastating hit my Matt Cooke taking out Savard.

This is the first game At home that will not feature Alex Ponikarovsky as a Leaf.

This is the first game in which Phil Kessel scores his first point as a Leaf against his former club (maybe) ... (Yes! After a change in scoring on the second goal, he got his first assist versus his old team)

The Leafs have given up powerplay markers in consecutive games after going five games without letting in a power play goal.

Despite being one season removed from having won the Vezina Trophy this is the second consecutive start for Tim Thomas I the last games.

And the Puck has dropped .. I'll be refreshing about every 10-15 minutes

Look, I'm not saying I'm a good luck charm, but I attend the game in the press box and a whole lot of good happens .. Caputi's first as a Bud, Kessel registering his first assist .. Just call me lucky Kats.

End of Regulation 3-3

This involves the Leafs, as well as around the league.
TFP: The Los Angeles Kings, Pittsburgh Penguins and Nashville Predators are among the teams to have serious interest in Alexei Ponikarovsky. Various reports suggest the Leafs are looking for a first-round pick in exchange for Ponikarovsky, though it's believed Burke is willing to accept a second-round pick and a top prospect."

Report: Bozak To Join Top Line

by on January 12, 2010- 599 Comments

Per the Toronto Star, it appears as though Tyler Bozak may be the latest player to get a shot at centring the Maple Leafs' top line alongside Phil Kessel and Nik Kulemin, beginning tonight against Carolina.   With Kessel having recorded only 1 goal and 1 assist in his last 12 games, the Leafs are desperately hoping this change may be the tonic required to get their star winger back on track.

Update: confirmed by am640's Jonas Siegel.

Great Work Gus!!!

by on November 5, 2009- 88 Comments

Wanted to take a minute and congratulate our very own Gus Katsaros on his segment on the Fan590 this afternoon.  Outstanding analysis of both the Phil Kessel/Savard relationship and analysis of the Boston Bruins schedule last year vs this year.  The little snip at Mr MacLean at the end was priceless as well..  Congrats Gus, and again, wonderful work..

Post-Game: ToskaLOL

by on February 3, 2009- 20 Comments

A heedless penalty from Alexei Ponikarovsky in the closing stages of the third period and a predictable Vesa Toskala pratfall in the subsequent overtime period undid a strong effort from the Maple Leafs that was deserving of the two points tonight.

Post-Game: He Just Can’t Stop Scoring

by on December 16, 2008- 22 Comments

The Maple Leafs have recorded their first three game winning streak since March by way of a shootout win (you heard me correctly) over the New Jersey Devils. Joe Sakic Rookie call-up Jeremy Williams made it three-in-three and also sniped in the shootout to continue his tear at the NHL level. Fourth shooter Jason Blake won the game on a sweet spin-o-rama move but I still highly dislike him. Seriously though, his work rate and overall level of play have visibly improved in the month of December.

Injury Plagued but Ready to Deal?

With tonight’s preseason game just a few hours away, there appears to be a shift of mood in the locker room for the duration of the preseason. It looks as if the days are numbered not only for those who won’t be joining the regular crop this year, but also for a few regulars.
