Quick Post-Game Thoughts

by on September 17, 2009- 121 Comments

I had the privilege of a great view from the Gold section, ten rows off the ice to witness a fairly decent game with plenty of positives. It was my first time in the lower bowl, so it was certainly an exciting and interesting experience to see how the other side lives. Impressive performances carried over from the rookie tournament by Tyler Bozak, the game's first star, and fellow collegiate rookie Viktor Stalberg. [more…]

Leafs Lineup Pre-Season Game #1

by on September 16, 2009- 284 Comments

Per the Globe and Mail: "The lineup for the Leafs’ first preseason game against the Boston Bruins at the Air Canada Centre on Wednesday will contain plenty of youngsters like Nazem Kadri, Tyler Bozak, Phil Oreskovic, Jay Rosehill, Andre Deveaux as well as veterans Colton Orr, Wayne Primeau and Jason Allison, who is trying to make a comeback. Look for Allison to centre a line with Jiri Tlusty and Nikolai Kulemin on the wings. Joey MacDonald will play half of the game in goal."

Sounds from the Rink

by on September 7, 2009- 662 Comments

While many of us were toiling away on "live online blogs" to get our hockey fix, a few MLHS writers were fortunate enough to make the trip down to see Game 2 of the rookie tournament in Kitchener against the Boston Bruins. Down at the rink, MLHS' own Gus Katsaros managed to sneak in a few minutes with Leaf GM Brian Burke and rookie Nazem Kadri to chat about the game and the upcoming season. [more…]

Jonas Gustavsson's unofficial debut performance is bound to generate some buzz after the Monster stopped 35 of 36 shots in backing the Maple Leafs' prospects to a 3-1 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins' youngsters in the opening game of the rookie tournament inside the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium this evening.

Pics and Pieces from Lakeshore

by on September 4, 2009- 50 Comments

Earlier this week, I was able to catch up with a few Leafs at Lakeshore Lions Arena. I've gone a few times already this August, and the closer we get to the opening of camp, more and more players are showing up. Notable attendants have included Finger, Tlusty, Bozak, Hamilton, both Mitchells, Schenn, The Monster, Toskala, Mayers, Poni, Stajan and Oreskovic. More than likely, some players were missing due to Olympic camp tryouts and practices.

Is Stajan’s Job in Jeopardy?

by on August 25, 2009- 165 Comments

While it may seem silly to ask such a question considering Matt Stajan produced 55 points last season, his role on the Toronto Maple Leafs is not set in stone.

Stajan, who had his best season as a Maple Leaf in 2008-09, proved to be a reliable two-way forward, and found his place among the top-six. However, many critics have pondered whether last season was simply a flash in the pan, as Stajan seemed to establish his role in the National Hockey League as a dependable No.3 center.

Who Is Your “Out Of Nowhere” Man?

by on August 25, 2009- 95 Comments

Every season, teams have at least one player who emerges with a seemingly unexpected season.   This is often witnessed in the form of a surge in offense, a dramatic increase in ice time, or a goaltender excelling in key areas such as save percentage and shutouts.

Who will rise to the occasion this season, and surprise us all with a season beyond our expectations?

Admire the Kids – Part 1

by on July 10, 2009- 3,225 Comments

This is part 1 of a collection of youtube videos that I believe greatly exposes the true talent in the Leafs new system. Each is an individual of a new player coming up in the Leafs organization. This should make the next 60 days a bit more bearable. In this feature, you'll see some great clips of Tyler Bozak, a bio on Christian Hanson and highlights of the "Swedish Rocket", Viktor Stalberg.

Who’s Getting the Boot?

by on April 3, 2009- 4,346 Comments

So, Brian Burke plans on changing the Toronto Maple Leafs. And he's started already.

Never in the nineteen years of my existence have I been so proud of a Leafs General Manager. No more signings to avoid the inevitable rebuild, no more trading away prospects and draft picks for mediocre/washed-up players, and most importantly, no more of those lame jokes about how old the Leafs' roster is.

The Tyler Bozak "Sweepstakes" are nearly coming to an end and according to Bob Mckenzie, the talented young forward from the University of Denver may make his decision as early as today after much speculation that he was supposed to sign yesterday. Apparently, the 23 year old Regina, Saskatchewan native has narrowed down his list to 3 or 4 teams, with Toronto and Ottawa believed to be among the finalists. [more…]
