    Steve Simmons should be fired for the face that he puts on his work.  I love that Brian took the time to single him out as the big jerk that he is.  Too bad Joe Carter never got that chance.

    Simmons is a jerk who works for a classless tabloid paper and talks like a frightened little girl. I can’t believe they called Brian a jerk the day after he got fired. Steve can dish it but can’t take it and cries to his editor to protect him. Hypocrite and a waste of a journalist! Someone needs to slap him right in the face that would be so awesome!! Hey Steve, do us a favour and go cover hockey in Russia jerk off!

    Simmons is the only honest guy out there.  Everyone else has been way to easy on Burke.  He derailed a team that wasn’t that far away from the playoffs when he got here.  I can’t understand the Leaf fan love in with Burke.

    Honest? Ok Mrs. Simmons… Nobody is condoning the move Burke made here and what love in are you referring to? Go to any article on the internet about his firing and 90% of the posts on there are fans rejoicing. My comment was not in defense of Burke but in offence to a sports writer who tried to convince his readers they should be mad at Mats Sundin for not waving his no trade clause. The most loyal, top ten greatest Leafs in franchise history. Honest would have been trying to convince the fans that they should have been mad at ownership and management for not getting Mats some help pre-ordersalary cap era… He’s not honest he is a tabloid writer. Simmons, honest? Lmao that just made my day..

    Hey… Correct me if I’m wrong but wasn’t this Steve Simmons reporter guy A child actor on the TV shows Kids of Degrassi Street and Degrassi junior high? I think his character’s names were Pete Riley on KDS and Alex Yankou cow on DJH.

    Iburnreading, I wasn’t even thinking of Sundin; although I think that he is one of the greatest modern Leaf’s.  He made Hoglund look good for a couple years.  That said, I don’t think his own point production went up a huge amount with some better talent.  and the leafs were always top 10 in salaries pre salary cap era. 
    Anyway, what I’m really referring to is the free pass Burke seemed to get from the rest of the Toronto media during his first three seasons.

    calling a reporter a douchebag at news conference where that’s what reporters do just reflects on you mr. O’Neil. that’s what reporters do in a free society. did burke explain why he was fired. no. so who is being dishonest.

    Simmons deserved that.  As stated, he is one of a gang of idiots who dissed Mats Sundin, one of the greatest captains in Leafs history and arguably the classiest Leaf.  Ever.  Mats chose to stand by his teammates and go down (or up) with the ship.  Loyalty is something Simmons probably would not recognize.

    Thanks, Brian, for all your effort.  Regardless of any “mistakes” you made, you gave it your all and have turned around the mess you inherited.  We aren’t there yet, but we’re closer.  Let’s hope that George Cope and the suits at Rogers don’t screw it up again.

    Sometimes it’s refreshing to see a jackass get his, instead of the other cheek being turned. Simmons has had this kind of stuff coming for as long as I have been reading the sun. I don’t read his column because I know, like many others know he is just a jerk. He isn’t particularly knowledgable, funny or informative. Someone that struggles to achieve those things should be seen as an embarrassment by ‘the Sun’. He truly is not an asset.

    I wanna see a game between the media and the nhl….wanna see if these guys can even tie their own skates…..Toronto, the embarrassment of the entire NHL.  Thanks Mr. Burke.  You should of walked up to Simmons and punched him in the face.
