Now that we’re in the TRUE off-season (in which nothing usually happens until September) I came across a little rumor not started by Eklund that raised an eyebrow, so I decided to pass it on. Keep in mind, I don’t even know the people personally who brought this up so it’s definitely peculation as of right now, but still interesting to say the least. It involves the Leafs, Lightning and Blues.
So here’s the report:
Toronto trades Jason Blake to the St. Louis Blues in exchange for a 3rd round pick. (I would have laughed if it was Blake and Stempniak for Carlo and Steen).
This deal is geared towards Toronto creating enough space to make a pitch that involves Kaberle, Stajan, and Pogge + heading to Tampa Bay in return for Vincent Lecavalier. I know, it’s far-fetched, but it did raise an eyebrow. The Leafs would definitely have the cap space available to do so, and we all know the ownership situation in Tampa is still skeptical, to say the least. So it could make sense for both teams. Stamkos would take over for Lecavalier along-side St. Louis, and Vincent would be the #1 centerman the Leafs are currently looking for.
I don’t know if more is included in the deal either way, nor do I even know if these talks have been held, so please, just discuss and enjoy the rumor for what it is – speculation. At the very least, it’s an entertaining couplet of deals to review.
