The Marlies would’ve liked to put on a better showing in their final home game of the season than the 6-1 loss that saw the Norfolk Admirals raise the Calder Cup on Ricoh ice yesterday. We all would’ve liked to have seen the Marlies push historically good team – Norfolk just capped a run the likes of which the AHL has never seen – more than four games. A pile of injuries and a royal screwjob by the refs (not that it would’ve changed the end result) didn’t exactly have the Marlies best positioned to keep pace with a great team. It doesn’t detract from their accomplishment as the best of the West. Thanks to their run, the city of Toronto hosted its first ever professional playoff hockey game in June. And hopefully there was some valuable development along the way.
