‘We’re in conversation': Leafs, Kadri continue contract talks

Leafs could be in ‘dicey’ spot with prospect Morgan Rielly
Leafs management really seems to think Rielly has nothing left to gain in junior.

Maple Leafs’ David Bolland remembers well Honda Indy’s roar

Wendel says Leafs fans will love Clarkson
It’s already a big enough contract to live up to, these Wendel comparisons aren’t doing anybody any good.

Well he picked the number 71… I guess he’s embraced it.

Thanks Alec . Regardless of what happens with Rielly the kid seems the have a positive outlook. Seems to be fine with playing a leadership role with Moose Jaw if he has too.

  • Doorman

On Moores wife passing;  Boy thats a hard one; It,s like half of you dies with her.  I know!  It,s going to take some time to get his head in order.  Playing should help.  Good luck Chief!!!

  • Leafbites

The D battle appears wide open, which is obviously interesting, but I’m also curious to see who plays wing with the presumable pairing of Bolland and Kuli. If it’s a shutdown line, it needs a shutdown winger.

Burtonboy Leafbites You see Joe centering 4th?

        • Burtonboy

Leafbites Burtonboy He could or maybe he gets beat out by McKegg lol

        • Leafbites

Burtonboy Leafbites Ha. I like our physical presence as much as anyone, but I think it’s time to dress one of Orr or McLaren, and get some speed and/cycle on the 4th line. Especially if this where Joe is going to fit.

        • Burtonboy

Leafbites Burtonboy I would agree with that for sure . With Clarkson and Bolland in the line up do we really have a need to dress both Orr and McLaren ? Would rather Joe,D’Amico or others get some of that ice time

D’Amigo, Ashton or maybe even Colborne.

  • LeafsForLife

Great job Alec! I am hoping the Leafs send Rielly down to minors maybe after letting him play 8 or 9 games. I rather he go down and dominate and take charge. Too much pressure and high expectations along with the shit the media will write about the kid. I rather he mature and come along slowly. Boimistruck, Benning, Schenn are examples of defencemen ruined by bringing them to the Leafs at too young an age.
I expect Clarkson will do his best to emulate Wendel but its a huge hill to climb imo. I think he is best to concentrate on being David Clarkson and leave the rest alone. I am looking forward to watching the added nastiness and bite that he and Bolland will bring to the Leafs. Leafs will be very tough to play against night in and night out.
    GO LEAFS GO!

  • .JVR.

Damn guys, it’s only July and I’m already so excited for next season.
Can’t stop thinking about how good our top six is gonna be with Kadri, Kessel, Lupul, JVR and Clarkson.  I guess Bozak will be there too, but I’m not too excited about that, haha.

Hopefully Nonis can get Franson under contract long-term, that way we don’t have to go through this again for awhile and obviously Gunnarsson and Fraser will be back, as they’re going to arbitration, unless of course they’re part of a trade.  (not 100% sure whether they can even be traded if they go through arbitration)

Then, when the cap goes up next season, package a player or two and some prospects for that defence partner Phaneuf truly needs and we’ll be well on our way to contending for the Cup.

I think we’ll see Lupul on that line, but one never knows.

        • playoff nut

.JVR. playoff nut The decisions on who play with who this coming year are so very interesting imho starting with ,Kadri feeding anyone

    • Mitch92

.JVR. Same!  Top six looks like two very difficult lines to defend against.  Lots of toughness and character spread throughout the line-up.  Agree on locking up Franson long term.  I think we have a gem here, thanks Burkie!  Our overall mobility from the backend is superb now and is set to be even better with the emergence of Gardiner and Rielly.  Things are on the upswing.  Now we have to see how the pieces fit together.

  • HoRr IbLe

If Rielly goes back to to the WHL, Hopefully Moose Jaw trades him to a good team.

    • Xxxxxnew

Someone wrote here yesterday that Moose Jaw was supposed to be a better team next year, although I think the Marlies would be perfect for him. Too bad the rules say its either the NHL or junior. I’m sure hell get nine games in with the Leafs at any rate.

      • rustynail

Xxxxxnew by definition they can’t be worse?

  • mr_hanie

If I had to choose between Grabovski and McClement I choose McClement every time.

    • Tim Horton

mr_hanie what about in a shootout? Not every time 😉

      • mr_hanie

Graboski was not so good on shoot outs. Carlyle never picked him anyway

        • Tim Horton

Still Grabo – McClement has the hands of a young Komisarek.

        • Irishfanman

Tim Horton McClements PPG in the OHL were .46 .74 .90 1.09 then in the AHL he was .36 .65 .82…so he had decent hands…at the lower levels…

Yea, but look at who was between the pipes for us
          (Raycrap)

    • Xxxxxnew

I didn’t mind Grabbo but no one here seems to remember the circumstances under which he came here from Montreal.

      • Xxxxxnew

Actually he was made available by Montreal because he left the team mid-seasonand went to see his agent in California after he was a healthy scratch for a game.

theacs1966 lol, Watters is possibly one of the stupidest people involved with the game.  It’s actually mind boggling that he could say something that incredibly stupid.

      • theacs1966

Cameron19 theacs1966 Ya you gotta consider the source.

      • wiski

Cameron19 theacs1966 He’s not on the radio anymore?

        • theacs1966

wiski Cameron19 theacs1966 Don’t know, I think the article said he commented on the radio but I don’t know if he has a show.

        • Xxxxxnew

His axe to grind with the leafs got bigger as the years went by. Sour after losing his asst. GM job with the leafs.

    • 4evrblue

theacs1966 most overrated player in the HISTORY of the NHL eh? thats a stupid fuckin comment lol

  • CallumConnorKnight

Toronto media just relax and quit calling Clarkson the next Wendal.

    • Cameron19

      CallumConnorKnight

This way it will be more dramatic when they start ripping him apart in a few months.  Watch them also later claim that it was the fans who thought Clarkson would be the next Wendel; attempting to paint us as ‘plan the parade’ idiots.

      • Xxxxxnew

The asked him who his favourite leaf was and it snowballed from there. Should have said Motor City Smitty.

      • theacs1966

Cameron19 CallumConnorKnight Since he retired I haven’t seen anyone that can score 46 goals and fight and hit like Clark did.  Clarkson is in that type of mold, but he can’t score like Wendel or fight as good.  If and when he does then I will compare.

        • Xxxxxnew

Poor Clarkie. Missed so many games to injury. Felt sorry for the guy.

    • 4evrblue

CallumConnorKnight If Clarkson was 21 right now and putting up the numbers he is then I would jump on the “next Wendel” bandwagon but as of now he is the next Tucker. Nothing wrong with that IMO

      • Xxxxxnew

Thing is I haven’t seen anyone call him the next wendel anywhere. All I’ve seen is Clarkson saying he had a Wendel jersey when he was a kid and some pictures of Wendel and Clarkson together at a hockey school. Only time I’ve seen “next Wendel” is in this string of posts.
