The Rockford IceHogs, AHL affiliate of the Chicago Blackhawks, defeated the Toronto Marlies by a score of 3-2 Wednesday night at Ricoh Coliseum.
Greg McKegg’s second goal of the season opened the scoring at 4:18 of the first period. The Marlies would take a 2-0 lead on Carter Ashton’s second goal in as many games. Rockford tied the game at two on goals from both Alex and Terry Broadhurst before the end of the period. Jeremy Morin notched his 4th goal of the season with under six minutes remaining in regulation to give the IceHogs their 5th victory of the season.
The Marlies return to the ice on Saturday evening when they host the Rochester Americans, AHL affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres, at 5 p.m. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling the team’s ticket line at 416-597-PUCK (7825).

“The Toronto Marlies posted a record of 1-1 over the course of two games this past week.
In their first road game of the season, the Marlies traveled to New York where they suffered a 4-1 loss at the hands of the Rochester Americans, AHL affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres. Wade MacLeod notched the lone Toronto goal with the assists going to Spencer Abbott and T.J. Brennan. Garret Sparks took the loss in his first start of the season.
In their final game of the week the Marlies defeated QEW rival the Hamilton Bulldogs, AHL affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens, by a score of 2-1. In his first game with the Marlies this season, Carter Ashton scored the game winning goal and was named the game’s first star. T.J. Brennan also netted his league leading eighth goal of the season in the win. Drew MacIntyre stopped 17 of 18 shots to remain unbeaten. Toronto went 2- for-8 on the powerplay and 6-for-6 on the penalty kill.
