Morning Mashup: Liles recalled

Good morning Leafs fans, another week is upon us and it sees the Blue & White heading west to take on Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver.

Bozak has been placed on the Injured Reserve, which – regardless of what you think about the de-facto first line centre – is a blow to this Leafs team. I would expect Kadri to continue to fill in at his position for the time being, but I’m also hoping that a little more ice time combined with a higher quality set of linemates leads Kadri to get in a bit of a groove. Kadri is the team’s most-skilled centerman, and he needs to produce if this banged-up team is to continue to build on their strong start.

Elsewhere in the Atlantic division, the Buffalo Sabres traded Tomas Vanek to the Islanders in what is likely the first of many trades as the Sabres dismantle their team and aim low for a good draft pick this season.

Breaking News: The Leafs have just recalled John-Michael Liles from the Marlies – an extra defenseman for the Western road trip and a nice opportunity to get back among the team for Liles, who took the whole demotion thing pretty well. Likely means Kulemin will remain on LTIR for the time being.

mike_84  A player may be loaned to a club of another league if (a) he’s already been through waivers during the current waiver period and (b) the Player has not played in 10 or more NHL Games since the last time he went through waivers, and (c) more than 30 days have not passed since the last time he went through waivers.

Dan39 He doesn’t have to be waived again.

Jmessih Burtonboy He was the 1st star for the month of October in 11-12 as well. Kessel gets love from the league, just not so much from TO.

Liles was placed on waivers on Sept 29 so by the time the road trip is over it will be more then 30 days. So he would have to pass through waivers.

  • wendelsfist

Liles in place of Ranger – will they actually consider that?

  • B_Leaf

    Did the Marlies come back?

  • djamon

wendelsfist Ranger’s been awful…and he’s killing Gardiner. They should.

  • Burtonboy

djamon wendelsfist and JML has played a lot with Grads

I think this move is a win – win for both the Liles and the team.   If he plays well and earns a spot, or if he plays well and gets claimed.  Someone in Calgary may even offer us something for him, because he wouldn’t want Liles to feel like he has no value.  ( not mentioning names)

djamon Dan39 The Leafs would be happy if he was permanently on the waiver wire.  Nothing personal against JML, but his contract is something of an ablbatross for a team hat has big bills to pay next summer
