Update: Josh Leivo led his Sudbury Wolves over the Ottawa 67′ers with a hat trick Sunday afternoon, including two brilliant individual efforts. We’ll scour the web for some video and post the highlights. Great display of skill.

MLHS user “J” attended the Sudbury Wolves win over the Kingston Frotenacs last night and tracked Josh Leivo’s shifts on video as well as his game-tying goal (his fourth of the season).

From J: “Leivo did not disappoint as he finished the night with the game tying goal and was a constant force to reckoned with. He made quite a few nice passes that could have easily been goals had other players finished the play.

He played on the 2nd line 5-5. He was on the second powerplay unit as well as the 2nd penalty killing unit. Notable:there were quite a few (6) Frontenac powerplays and they failed to take advantage.

I was able to take a few pictures and I taped most of his shifts. Check out his hard work on the PK and goal at the end of the video:

Perfectly true. But even then they could have easily had both.

I remember the way Montreal did it in the 1970s. Most of their players, even a lot of future stars, did significant AHL time with the Nova Scotia Voyagers. Steve Shutt, Larry Robinson, John Van Boxmeer, Yvon Lambert, Bib Gainey, Rick Chartraw, Mario Tremblay, Doug Riseborough, Guy Chouinard, Pierre Mondou, Brian Engblom and many more future NHLers and Stanley Cup winners played for their AHL club first. At the same time Ballard was decimating the organization and happily letting players go to the WHA.

It’s one of my first times shooting indoors with my new Canon RebelT2i. A little shaky/out of focus and overexposed in spots but after a bit of experimentation, I was getting it by the end. Very tricky as there’s no AF when filming a video.

The long video will be smoothed out shortly…youtube is ‘steadying’ the video now.

That seemed to be the way the leafs operated for a lot of years. Detroit was actually spending a lot more in salary than the Leafs before the lockout, around $72 million compared to the Leafs 65 million or so, but even then Detroit had a system where prospects were kept in the minors or left in Europe until they were 22, including Zetterberg and Datsyuk.

I showed a security guard my camera bag with lenses and body and she told me that I couldn’t use a camera with a detachable lens…I said “OK that’s fine,” packed up and walked to our seats with no hastle. Figured I should lay low while filming but in hindsight, it wasn’t necessary.

    Thanks, wiski.

Read Joe’s description of nearly losing his finger. Disgusting.I don’t know whether to admire him or call him an idiot for playing on.
