The Leafs look to pick up their first win in five games tonight against the Dallas Stars. The Stars are 10th in the west with a 13-9-4 record, but some of below-average teams in the West would probably be good teams in the East. I caught parts of a couple of Stars games this season and this is a fast team.
Jerry D’Amigo received his first ever call up after four seasons with the Marlies and is expected to play on the Leafs’ 4th line tonight.
It seems Colton Orr is injured, and there is no word yet as to whether or not Frazer McLaren will dress for the Leafs. The Leafs waived Jerred Smithson and recalled D’Amigo though, so it seems Randy Carlyle is starting to get the idea after getting smacked over the head with the dangerous realities of icing a boat anchor fourth line, with a banged-up lineup, against a deep team like the San Jose Sharks.
Many fans have been waiting to see D’Amigo after some beastly playoff performances for the Marlies 2012 and again in 2013. He has been a 30-40 point player in the regular season, but has 21 points in 26 AHL playoff games.
D’Amigo will likely get some penalty killing time given Smithson is now with the Marlies and Tyler Bozak is out tonight. Hopefully D’Amigo has McClement and maybe Ashton as linemates to give him something to work with in terms of a cycle line.
Phil Kessel will play, Joffrey Lupul won’t. Jonathan Bernier starts. Tyler Seguin is in for the Dallas Stars. Stephane Robidas is out for a long time for the Stars.
We’ll know the lines closer to puck drop.
Rc should have dressed 7 d and double shift some one on the 4th in place of McL to spread out the minutes.
There is no D. Bumbling and stumbling, chaotic covering and chasing. A win is a win, but man, can't shoot and can't defend. So sad, but JVR stoodout along with Bernier IMO
Good win by the Leafs. They made it interesting though.
Things that stood out for me.
They kept skating the whole game and we got points from our defence. Seems we were missing this from our defence.
Awesome game by Naz for his grandfather.
Bernier looked terrific.
Phaneuf is rock solid for us. WOW!
heres one to chew on, Nonis is gonna end up coughing up a 2nd rd pick for Holland who played what 5mins tonight? fukin RC playng MCclement too much
Full disclosure - I'm a fan of Gardiner. But no one can question that his game has been growing better and better each game - and he was very good tonite
Can't believe we're going to give up a 2nd rounder because Holland gets played 5 minutes a game. What's the point? D'Amigo 4 minutes. McLaren 3 minutes. Absolutely ridiculous.
Honestly can't believe Franson though. Fucking awful. RC really needs to sit him down for a bit, bloody awful.
@Nikhil Daljeet thxs
@Bruffins Holland sent down?
@Bon Scott was a Leaf fan Oh goody, Jon Abbott...click
@Bon Scott was a Leaf fan The only thing LTV does better is showing the 3 stars of the game. It's an irrelevant thing, but much better than having the crown royal 3 stars.
@LeafFan15 I think i'd rather see ranger in though. Fraser's knee has just finished him
@whalz Yup, probably why he took that dumb penalty at the end of the 3rd - he was tired. Also, why even dress McLaren if you're gonna have him on the ice for 3:06
@MaxwellHowe He's our 3rd best defenseman by a country mile after Gunnar and Dion.
@MaxwellHowe trade him
@wiski The Leafs do have a better record with him out of the lineup... just saying.
I don't think losing any player to injury really helps any team, though. Unless the coach plays them way too much, which, in Bozak's case, is actually very true.
@wiski Isn't it past their bedtime? It's a school night.
@loomx i agree, Holland should be put in a position to succeed, and if Carlyle isn't going to play him, then what was the point for the trade. This guy was a first round pick, and one of the better players to play for the Storm in the past 15 years. If he can't play more than 5 minutes with all the injuries to the centres, then what's the point.
@loomx 3games in 4 nites. Good luck with that tactic RC
@lucjen75 sorry but Fraser was by far the worst D tonight
When we had Toskala we had the second best shot differential in the league and still didn't make the playoffs...lol
@DWCMLHS we did!!
@Omac13 yep they have to stand on their heads every night!
@dontcallmeshirley sure we did we outplayed them most of the game, especially the second.
@dontcallmeshirley nope. not even close....he plays Mcclement too much and he was the reason he took that penalty resulting in the tying goal by Dallas
@PeterZeroOne yup, I thought D'amigo looked great and skated well.......id love to see him instead of FML
@PeterZeroOne why bother to dress a 4 line at all!
@DWCMLHS He was THAT bad! lol
@whalz @dontcallmeshirley he took the penalty because Phaneuf couldn't clear the puck when it was on his stick, and on the tying goal, defending 101 you are supposed to be goal side of the attacking player, and Phaneuf is 3 feet in front of him. Glad we got the win, but without Bernier, it is 6 games. I am convinced the main problem is Carlyle's system and unwillingness to change. There is no way with the lineup this team has we should be outshot and outplayed in nearly every game this year by almost every team. I've been a Carlyle supporter but this collapsing bullshit needs to be adjusted and we need to play a lot more in the other teams end. He needs to get the D to generate more offense, and get better gap control playing like a 5 man unit. Sorry, rant over, but i've been watching this team since '65 and this isn't the worst or best team i've seen, but may be the most underachieving when you look at the lineup. I find myself channel surfing during games because i know what is coming.
@whalz @dontcallmeshirley c'mon guys, have a moment of contentment
Actually I think that was Andrew Waysoft I am thinking of when we were second to Detroit in shot differential.
