Elliotte Friedman is reporting that Toronto Maple Leafs’ defenceman Tim Gleason is on waivers with the intent to buy him out.
Gleason and Volchenkov on buyout waivers

Tim Gleason Buyout
|LENGTH: 4 YEAR(S) TOTAL AMOUNT: $5,333,333 TEAM: TOR|
The Maple Leafs now have three NHL defencemen who are right shots, which is something that Carlyle—and a lot of coaches—really harp about wanting and needing.
This punches a hole on the left side of the Leafs defence core and opens up a spot for either a Marlie, Paul Ranger to be promoted or an Unrestricted Free Agent signed to the Leafs.
The buyout saves the Leafs a shade over $3 million on next season’s $69 million cap, but becomes a little more burdensome in the seasons following.
Gleason buyout+Gunnar $+overage=~1.5M MT @Hope_Smoke Loiselle "believe it or not $1M effects a lot.. It's at least 1 player on your roster."

As far as the main article it may be a bit premature to guy who's played less than 15 minutes in the NHL an NHL defenseman.
Otherwise, I'd like to say good luck to Gleason. I like him as a player. I wish him success with his new organization.
@ProfessorRance I guess we can hope.....but why do I doubt it
Here is what I think the Leaf line-up will look like after free agent frenzy...
Go Leafs Go!!!
@Pazzuzzu Nobody signs 8 ppl in free agency...especially when you have one of the better AHL affiliate teams in their respective league.
@ShiftyD Twitter is my FA coverage.
@ShiftyD genie bouchard on tsn2 now icymi ;)
Well I'm 43 minutes late but. HAPPY CANADA DAY MLHS!
@ShiftyD Which is funny because the Marlies is probably where Gorges would end up by the end of his contract.
so we're not on his new list and he's refused to waive again ... why are we still interested in this guy??
@reenergized it's our last chance at getting rid of ph9
@LeafsGuru Faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack ;)
@LeafsGuru and @ Wiski not really, he has to provide a list ... so he can be traded to those teams whenever we want ... assuming we can get a proper return ... sorry I had to go and eat something after I posted the last remark ...
Late to the party but half in the bag and almost blew myself up with fireworks.
Happy Canada Day everyone! Don't forget we live in the greatest country around!
@Cloud09 In the fucking world man
What do you guys think of Booth as a cheap reclamation project to play on L3? He's good on the boards and a good 2-way player, just had a silly contract in VAN.
@Jay31 Rather have him than Raymond for sure. These are the kinds of cheap deals the Leafs should be looking for.
@Bon Scott was a Leaf fan My solo took a shit Bon :(
Gonna give TO Vape a shout this week and see if they will replace under warranty.
@Xxxxxnew According to Don Cherry he's not
Other than Stastny and maybe Boyle I hope we see some restraint tomorrow and then look for bargains after the craziness subsides.
@Anthony Petrielli i dont want any 3rd or 4th liners signed. Its a waste of cap. We have young guys that can do the job. imo
So signing Komarov would be signing a third liner!
I like Holland, and he's promising, but he's played 68 career games with 17 total points in the NHL, and the two C's above him in Bozak and Kadri aren't exactly going to make his life easy... That's a leap of faith. Same would be said of D'Amigo who has played even less.
@Anthony Petrielli @LeafsForLife Lol ok. Komarov doesnt really count in my mind because hes already ours. Holland is reliable and is NHL ready in my mind. I believe he will do a great job as a 3rd line centre. He wont have pressure on him so he can relax and do his job and no worries. Damigo is ready for the jump. He has great speed and is defensively responsible. I would hope the 3rd and 4th line spots are made up of Marlies this year. Im prepared not to make the playoffs if necessary and will live with the growing pains of the kids on the team. Basically Komarov and Clarkson will be 2 of the spots for those lines and the rest from the Marlies.
@LeafsGuru Yeah. 52% on FLA, then 57% on PIT.
@LeafsGuru Yep. Go all-in on Stastny, see what happens, and then have a few beers if it doesn't happen. Check back on the market in a few days and then really dig in and find some gems for cheap.
He is a option at least, but no need to rush into the contract, the longer he waits the cheaper he becomes
@Anthony Petrielli @Cloud09 @LeafsGuru Hard to believe that the guys who run the show know something we don't. If they are going to go with this core than all you can do is add to it and all the Leafs seem to be interested in is leadership. How the hell do you quantify that and add it to a roster? Blows me away that this is what they deemed the priority for the offseason.
