Leafs and Flyers linked in trade talks?

Probably not much more than some fun speculation here, but it seems the internet is heating up some trade talks, and the Leafs are in the middle of it. Again.

From the Philly Daily News:

Flyers director of player development Don Luce was spotted for the third time in as many weeks at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto for the Maple Leafs’ contest against Buffalo.

Luce’s consistent presence in Toronto fuels trade speculation between the Flyers and Leafs. The NHL trade deadline is just 47 days away…

“I do try to get my lineup set well in advance of the deadline,” Burke told ESPN.com on Friday. “I’ve never been a deadline guy. So January is when I try to make a splash. We are listening to a lot right now, and there is a good chance something will happen …”

While I don’t doubt the Leafs and Flyers are chatting, I’m not sure how you could pinpoint Luke Schenn as the player that’s targeted (which the article goes on to do.)

It’s well known that Burke and Flyers’ GM Paul Holmgren are buddies, and Burke’s son is employed by the Flyers as well. The connection is there.

Is there enough to get a deal done? If Burke really wants to stay away from the deadline, it looks like we’ll find out soon.

The thing is Simmonds made it clear that he didn’t mean it to offend gays , its heat of the moment. Im guilty of calling tons of guys gays or fags , my buddies , opponents and have been called a fag thousands of times its just a word that gets thrown around in the heat of the moment but now is becoming very frowned upon.

I think Mac is worth more to US than a first and it sounds like Burke doesn’t have too many plans to restock the cupboards at this point, he wants to make us a contender now

Liles is our best offensive dman and moving him makes us worse, Burke clearly said he wants to improve the team

I agree with that too. I think Liles would get a Keberle type package. Even Komi with one year left (I think) can fetch a pick or 2

Worth noting that we’re 6-2-1 with Liles out of the line-up.

I like Mac and think he is a talented player. But watching last nights game. Kadri in my mind easily replaces him. They have Lombardi & Armstrong waiting to play 2nd & 3rd line minutes. At the deadline Mac’s value will be at its peak. If we trade him for a first or keep him I’ll be happy either way.

He never said that, atleast I didn’t hear him if he did and I watched the full segment.
That was just somebody on here making things up!

Just what we need is another third liner and that would mean Kadri would be going back to the Marlies :(

Gunner is probably our most valuable d-man. Look at his time on ice.

To me you don’t touch Liles, its either Gunnar or Aulie. Liles is a huge piece in why we have the 3rd ranked PP in the league

Usually yes but where we also have guys like Blacker, Percy in the system I don’t think losing one or two would be that big of a hit

I wonder if it’ll be something like Schenn or Franson + maybe a middling prospect for JVR and Philly’s 1st.

Fuck now I’m getting sucked into this 22 year old stuff lol.

thats a good point but you could also make the argument we don’t need Armstrong, Bozak or Reimer as well

I put him in just to be fair, and they did pick up Dave Burrows for him. I like Luke, and if he turns out to be Luke Richarson, I’m fine with that. But my point is if you have a chance to improve the team – in a big way, not just some half assed deal – you have to do it no matter who the player is. When I look at that list I realize I just don’t fall in love with individual players any more. I’ve seen too many. I’d rather see a Cup win.

Personally I think Bozak is quickly turning himself into a long term player. I read an article the other day where they talked about him being closer to the player he is playing like right now than the player he was last year.

I didn’t make that up. Burke has repeatedly made that statement everytime he has been asked about Schenn. To be clear he absolutely did not say that tonight, then again he wasn’t asked specifically. I see no reason why his stance would have changed on this player
