Morning Mashup: Komarov In, Frattin Out

Some good news and some awful news out of Leafland yesterday. Finally inking the 25-year-old Finnish forward after a courtship dating back to last summer, the Leafs officially signed 2005 draft pick Leo Komarov to a one-year contract (see our posts on Komarov here and here). The bad news? The Marlies have lost Matt Frattin for the Calder Cup Finals due to a knee injury sustained in a collision with the post while he scored the empty netter in Game 5 against Oklahoma City.
To call the loss of Matt Frattin a significant one would be understating matters. The AHL post season’s leading goal scorer has posted 10 goals in the playoffs and 24 goals overall in 36 games at the AHL level this season. Frattin has been responsible for nearly 40% of total Marlie goal production in these playoffs and many of his tallies have been self-made. Since round two we’ve seen him dominate offensively and find the target with stunning frequency; let’s hope this doesn’t derail his momentum too badly headed into next year’s camp.
With Nazem Kadri and Mike Zigomanis banged up as well, the Marlies have added Greg McKegg to the roster now that the London Knights’ season is over. After a pretty easy-breezy first three rounds, the adversity just ramped up a notch or ten headed into their match up against Norfolk, who entered the playoffs by making AHL history with a 29-game winning streak (and haven”t slowed down much since). Who steps up and how do the Marlies respond? Game 1 goes Friday night.

MORNING LINKS:
Rick Dudley chats with Norm Rumack.
The Fourth Period with a run down on the off-season ahead of Brian Burke. Pagnotta states rather matter of factly that Anders Lindback is Burke‘s go-to option after Luongo… doesn’t make much sense to me.
Nice piece from Mike Brophy on the Marlies’ Will Acton. He’s been a good foot soldier in the playoffs.
Keith Aulie talks to Sportsnet Radio ahead of the Admirals-Marlies matchup. He’s played for both teams this season.
Matt Frattin Done for Season. Kyle Cicerella discusses the bad news.
Oh yeah, I should probably mention the Stanley Cup Finals begin tonight. Good read from Lebrun on the two long time GMs at the respective helms. This quote from Lamoriello struck me as familiar: “Surround yourself with the best possible people you can get. Try and get people that might know more than you. Don’t be insecure. Respect it. Don’t allow yourself to get caught up that it’s you. It’s the people around you. It’s just like the players. The most important thing is the people around you.”

@Bon Scott was a Leaf fan Hating them for being a Bruin is completely ok by me. I just hate all the time spent on comparing each trade. They are done and over with. We have some great pieces now and with a few tweaks and luck we will be a great team.
@wendelsway It has everything to do with being girls, seeing as girls typically bitter back and forth over issues and never give it up!
@Knights2Leafs OK, just caught this. I never said I misinterpreted your comment. It was simply unclear as you posted it. After you clarified, I still thought it was poor. I still think it IS poor. And you never had to make it "simple enough for me". It was never too complex, just wrong. Trying to suggest that a teenager who is currently playing in the OHL, and stands every chance still of getting to the NHL through the North American professional market is comparable to someone who stayed in Europe until their mid-20's is erroneous. Pure and simple enough for you?
You started off acting like a dick in your response because I gave an honest response you couldn't handle. Not my problem. And acting like I'm too stupid to fathom how your faulty logic is accurate just makes me laugh.
@wendelsway id say so, ben's a real down to earth guy, a couple of my friends own Bardown hockey apparel and Scriven's came out to their promo booth a couple days ago to chat with them, thats how I got news of his interesting wedding schedule conflict.
Can you guys fucking believe the orioles accusing the blue jays of cheating? Using "the man in white" excuse again ...what a bunch of fucking losers
@Schenn That's ESPN America which is what Europe gets to watch. I noticed that some of the other Marlies streams were ESPN America.
@wendelsway hahah maybe thats the teams wedding present to Ben, finishing the Admirals in 4 games and allowing him to win playoff MVP...
