A Hopeful Tuesday
Share

There might have been a little somethin’ somethin’ crowding your Twitter feed last night, forcing you to miss the updates (or lack thereof.. in this case, possibly a good thing) from the latest round of NHL/NHLPA meetings. No word about what went down, but the negotiating session lasted seven hours and ended with plans to resume talks today (Wednesday).

Considering the last meeting between the two sides took about 10 minutes and preceded two weeks of stalemate, this seems to be a good sign. They’re talking at length, and a process that’s been riddled with posturing has broken for some welcomed silence and secrecy.

Perhaps a few missed paycheques and the cancelation of the Winter Classic has injected the necessary urgency to arrive at an agreement that really isn’t that far out of reach.

Or maybe I’m just brimming with hope after last night.

There’s always hope since they haven’t said the season is cancelled yet, am I right in saying that those 7 hours yesterday were the longest they’ve spent “at the table” so to speak?

I thought this was going to be a good year for the Leafs too, my SPL team is 4th in the league, local amateur side are top of the Highland League, was looking forward to seeing the Blue and White dominate.

We just need one more vote for a perfect 2 for 2 November. Hopefully the NHL and the PA can craft a proposal the players can vote for.

meh. Cox is off base. I’m glad that Markham is curbing their irrational enthusiasm but I think that just a bit of cold feet and rational thinking.

I’m going to look silly here but I’ll pose these questions to help further my knowledge on the whole saga. See before these CBA’s were introduced, what did the NHL exactly have in place so anarchy wasn’t caused with contracts like what’s happened in the past 8 years.

Secondly, are people still for/against the salary cap and I get the whole fact that it makes the league more competitive but did fans prefer no cap or a salary cap?

I’m not from Toronto obviously McLoki but what is the ethnic make-up of the Markam area ? I do believe another team can work in southern Ontario just not sure it should be in TO

You’re right. Was reading about that earlier. Colorado and Washington for recreational use and Massachusetts for medical reasons. Even Arkansas may have voted for medical reasons, but the incomplete vote is too close to call. They could become the first of the Southern states to adopt the measure.

I rarely get up there but I would have guessed there is a strong Chinese and Asian contingent. Just looked it up.

Oh yeah Markham has money and a highly visible immigrant population.  Not sure which is higher Brampton or Markham.

I actually dont see them getting a 2nd team.  It is the worst area to put a franchise.

Interesting . My guess is without some sort of wink wink nudge nudge deal with the NHL to actually bring a franchise to Markam the council is probably making the right decision to go slow on that arena

And thats just the start, the only real reason BC has not legalized it was the anticipated back lash from the US. As Washington State borders BC its inevidable now
