A Hopeful Tuesday
Share

There might have been a little somethin’ somethin’ crowding your Twitter feed last night, forcing you to miss the updates (or lack thereof.. in this case, possibly a good thing) from the latest round of NHL/NHLPA meetings. No word about what went down, but the negotiating session lasted seven hours and ended with plans to resume talks today (Wednesday).

Considering the last meeting between the two sides took about 10 minutes and preceded two weeks of stalemate, this seems to be a good sign. They’re talking at length, and a process that’s been riddled with posturing has broken for some welcomed silence and secrecy.

Perhaps a few missed paycheques and the cancelation of the Winter Classic has injected the necessary urgency to arrive at an agreement that really isn’t that far out of reach.

Or maybe I’m just brimming with hope after last night.

The fact that the US govt will not let the cliff approach without a parachute.  Common sense.

No offence, but that would be crazy. There’s no way to justify picking a guy who is realistically just a 3rd or 4th liner if he makes the NHL. Not at 4th overall. Gotta go for a top 6 forward, top 4 dman or starting goalie. Positions that are much harder to fill.

If this ever came to fruition, who do you think Burke would grab at the 4th spot? Quite the selection there from Columbus and Phoenix…

That’s 23 of the best guys off the top of my head. The top 15 probably would be made up of 15/23 of these players, in no particular order. We could likely end up with a top 4 dman or Mike Smith. Of stay the hell away from Jack Jonhson, though. He and Kessel HATE each other.

I think Edmonton would take OEL. If the Habs took Yandle, the Isles would take Murray. If the Habs took Murray, the Isles would likely take Johansen. They already have Streit and Visnovsky making a ton of money as offensive dmen, and they have Johansen’s junior teammate, Niederreiter.
So of the Habs took Yandle, we’d be looking at:
Johansen, Wizniewski, Johnson, Smith, Michalek, Hanzal or Brassard

An if the Habs took Murray:
Yandle, Wizniewski, Johnson, Smith, Michalek, Hanzal or Brassard.

If we could get Yandle that would be amazing. Is he a left side or right side d?

Left. He’d definitely be my pick in that scenario.

    Yandle – Phaneuf
    Liles – Gunnarsson
    Gardiner – Franson

    *drools*

But if the Habs took Yandle, I’d probably take Johansen. He was rushed to the NHL, but as the 2010 4th overall pick, he still has legitimate 1st line center potential. We could really use Smith, but Johansen would be a better asset to get our hands on, due to age, potential, contract, etc.

Martin Hanzal would also be a really good pickup. The guy hits like crazy and is great defensively. That D with Yandle looks way better.

Not really.  Country has a President who wants to create jobs and build the middle class.  Of course Wall Street doesn’t like it.

Mike Smith would be a risky pick. He’s only had one good season, and it was with a good defensive team. He could very well fall back to mediocrity next season.
