After the Toronto Maple Leafs let go Brian Burke, they could be interested in bringing in another big name to be the next president.

Sportsnet’ s Nick Kypreos confirmed an earlier tweet from Sportsnet 590 The Fan’s Bob McCown that Maple Leafs Sports & Entertainment has privately discussed bringing in Wayne Gretzky to the Maple Leafs front office.

Currently, Maple Leafs COO Tom Anselmi is listed as the team’s president. It remains unclear if MLSE would prefer someone with more of a hockey background.

Gretzky has not worked in the NHL since he left the Phoenix Coyotes in 2009. He spent nine years with the club as the alternate governor, managing partner, head of hockey operations, and head coach (2005-09).

The Leafs promoted Dave Nonis to general manager after the Leafs fired Burke Jan. 9, who was the team president during his tenure with the organization.

     a trade like that could make them good in the shorter term.  especially if they dumped yak.  hall, RNH and eberle are already very very good.  give ‘em a d-man to anchor the boat.  sign a good veteran goalie, and then watch them turn the corner.

    If they still finished that low. But they aren’t going to do it. It is too much of a risk. 

    Funny thing is, Pierre McGuire was the runner-up for the Habs’ GM job, and he wanted to move 3rd overall and Subban to Edmonton for 1st overall. Maybe that’s why ownership went with Bergevin…

    None of them are doing any of the little things.  They have no defensive expectations.  WTF is that all about.  Kadri had no choice to work on that part of his game and is much better for it.  These kids in Edmonton need to score every time on the ice or they are liabilities.

    McGuire was also runner up to the Leafs GM position before we hired Burke.  So was Healy and Nonis (or so Healy says).
