Matt Frattin Out; James Reimer’s Replacement & Trading for Ryan O’Reilly
Share

As if injuries to Carl Gunnarsson, Joffrey Lupul, Jake Gardiner and now James Reimer weren’t enough, the Leafs just announced Matt Frattin is expected to be out for at least a week after undergoing a minor procedure on his previously surgically repaired knee, although James Mirtle speculated he might be out a little longer than that.

Frattin is currently second on the team in goals scored with 7 and tied for third in points with JVR with 10 points. He’s formed a bit of a dynamic duo with Nazem Kadri as both take the body, go to the dirty areas, and complement each other well between Kadri’s setup skills and Frattin’s finishing ability.

Mike Brown is expected back soon and David Steckel has been a healthy scratch, but this could give the Leafs an opportunity to call-up Joe Colborne and give him another look at the NHL level should they so choose. He has 16 points in his last 15 games with the Marlies.

Otherwise, it sounds as if McClement might move up on the Kadri-MacArthur line and Steckel will probably fill the roster hole in the 4C. That’s just speculation and we’ll have to see what Carlyle has in mind.

The Leafs also called up Jussi Rynnas to replace the injured James Reimer. With Reimer only expected to be out for a week or so, it doesn’t make sense yet for the Leafs to bring in a veteran and create a logjam of goalies in the organization a week from now.

Tt’s pretty safe to say that Scrivens will get all the starts for now. He could always play terribly and force Carlyle’s hand, but the glass half full approach says that this is a chance for Scrivens to really start proving himself and maybe even push Reimer for starts.

In other news, if you feel like procrastinating today, Josh Rimer tweeted out that the Leafs have indeed inquired about Ryan O’Reilly. He’s been the hot topic lately, and would obviously come in to be the expected first line center of the team, but the main question on everyone’s mind is whether or not it would require Jake Gardiner to be going back the other way, and if that’s worth it.

Discuss.

Increased PP time, now PK time, on the ice the past few games with under 2 minutes to play, and Poulin commenting that in many cases it’s Naz’s creativity making openings for guys like Fratt. Pretty obvious to me what’s going on here.

A 2D, and ensuring we get good goatending are much bigger than the “need” for a 1C.

Pretty sure I’ve already decided on my keepers, although that could change.

Are draft positions based on where we finished last season?  If so, I believe I finished 9th out of 12, so I’ll be getting the 4th round pick.

    Draft lottery will change.
All 14 teams fully eligible for 1st pick overall. Weighting system may
    remain, but 4-move restriction out.

Well they are close. The prevailing wind with ROR is he is a heck of a player but I’ve only seen one season of it. Schenn…meh an average 2nd line player…woot?

Baseball and Hockey were always on at the same time.

Baseball begins at the start of April and goes till mid-June.

This year hockey is gonna goto the end of June, so we’ll get two extra weeks of hockey and baseball on at the same time.

Would be sick going to Toronto to watch an afternoon game in the afternoon and then a Leafs playoff game at night.  Could even squeeze the end of a Marlies playoff game in after the Jays game is over, if they’re playing at the Ricoh at 3PM.

Keys to realignment will be 4 Divisions…and playing home and home with every team in the league with playoffs inside division first.

    Well, that fucking sucks.

I had my whole keeper situation picked, under the assumption that I’d be picking 4th overall.  Was gonna drop my #1 pick from last year, with the hope picks #1-3 were keeping theirs and it would have given me the 1st overall pick.

Now it’s a crap shoot and unless everybody else is keeping the player they drafted in the 1st round, I basically have to keep my 1st round player from last year.

Is it gonna be the same realignment as they had set up last year, before the NHLPA shot it down?

I’m guessing that with the CBA negotiations on the horizon last year, the NHLPA was just throwing their weight around, showing that they won’t be pushed around and that they wanted a say in what was going to be done.

Now that they were included in the process, they’ll probably just agree
