Phil Kessel’s hat trick vs. Slovenia

527

Phil Kessel has been the best hockey player on the planet since the start of 2014, leading the NHL (28pts) and now the Olympics in points. Here’s his latest divine revelation: A natural hat trick in Sunday’s game versus Slovenia.

That first move = Wow. The cross-crease goal off of Joe Pavelski’s pass (hard to tell from the highlights) was batted in from knee high level.

How good does it feel that a Toronto Maple Leaf is the talk of the hockey world?

Praise be to The Phil.

Good for you Phil but you’re goin home with a bronze ‘)

  • joelisaac323

MapleLeafsHS I am not really sure why the highlight packs from these Olympic games are pure crap.

  • Savo43

Phil is friggin unreal. Wouldn’t be surprised if he and the US upset us this year. As much as that would suck, you’ve gotta believe it’d be beneficial for our Leafs.

  • Cloud09

Man that Joe Pavelski is some kind of player. Is Bozak our poor mans Pavelski?? Would be sweet to try and sang him from the Sharks but I doubt they would ever part with him.

  • Xxxxxnew

He just signed a 5 year limited no-move contract for five years after this at $6 mil per.

  • Black_Hawk

Cloud09  i think its more phil then anything 😉

  • lukethenuke

Cloud09  He is the perfect centre for Kessel. Id move Bolland, Gunner and Reimer for him (or flip reimer for picks then the picks for pavelski,,,,)

  • Great Dane

I can’t see anything really interesting player available in the three of open trade windows, unless Gilles get desperate.

However, after the season I’m sure that Nonis will make a couple of big moves.

  • Savo43

Cloud09  Kadri and Gardiner would have to go for SJ to listen about Pavelski i’d think.

  • Great Dane

Savo43 Cloud09and that is way too high a price to pay for a 30 year old player.  Couture for kadri + that might be interesting

  • Leafs rule

Good morning all ,what a great Kessel day and its only -17 here

  • Burtonboy

Great Dane  Wonder how the Rags are making out getting McDonagh signed ?

  • Burtonboy

Amazing stuff from the Thrill. Hope he keeps it up. Score all you want in the next game and you can even score in the game against Canada as long as we win the game.

  • Great Dane

Burtonboy He would be an upgrade I would like.  But isn’t signed already by the Rags?

  • Burtonboy

Great Dane Burtonboy  Sorry I screwed up . It’s Girardi they are trying to sign . Not sure I would want him. Long history of injuries

  • theacs1966

That poor Japanese goalie.  She’s tiny.  She looks like she could be in  my 12 yr old Nephews team.  No chance.

  • Great Dane

Did you guys noticed the fact that while the Leafs overall is -7; Phaneuf is +17 and Gunnar +14.

    That is quite amazing

  • leafsince93

GM MLHSer..gotta question, i know there is a really love hate relationship when it comes to RC in leaf-land. I look at Kessel’s game and wondered, under which coach he has improved the most ? Under Julien in Bos he was a goal scorer, under Wilson with Leafs he started to become a bit of a play maker. Now under RC, it seems his compete level has gone so much higher as well as his defensive game has improved significantly. Phil Kessel has become the one of the best passer in the league, i loved the way he back checked on one of the play against Slovenia. USA was already leading i think 3-0. I will give Kessel most of the credit for really working on hi overall game but having RC tutelage hasn’t hurt him either. Sorry this turned into a long post..:):) still early in the morning and i can hardly keep my eyes open at work

  • mcloki

Morning gents it’s going to be a long week of waiting.

  • Great Dane

CanuckUKinToronto Gardiner almost back to zero. The part of the equation that I do not like is Franson.
He is PP point producer so he has a lot of value and therefore he should be traded maybe in a package for an overall top2 – top4 d-man.
Keep Rielly (he will be a top 2 in 2-3 years) and Gardiner as the PP quarter back

  • Burtonboy

The Swedish ladies are gonna get blown out from the looks of it . Yankee gals are still pissed about the loss to Canada

  • Great Dane

CanuckUKinToronto My line of thinking as well. Franson plus a prospect could probably land us a top 2-3 overall d-man with a cap hit of 4-5 million. Hopefully on at least a 4 year contract.

  • Knights2Leafs

    Burtonboy Great Dane
He doesn’t look to have missed many games.
He would be a right handed Tim Gleason with an average of 25 points per year, but likely to resign with the Rangers.
Dale Hunter trained London Knight – time to come home and play with your buddy David Bolland and team that will actually be contending for the SC!!!!

In all fairness to the other coaches, Phil has matured with time.  Tough to expect a boy to do a man’s job, and Kessel was still a boy when he was with the Bruins.  I love what he has become, and that the trade has become obviously lop sided in our favour.

  • MaxwellHowe

Hoping the US men’s team gets eliminated ASAP so THE THRILL can get him some rest.  JVR as well.

  • mcloki

The US is putting the boots to them. Not good

  • Burtonboy

Knights2Leafs Burtonboy Great Dane  I never looked tbh.. Just thinking about the last yr or so . He did have a long stretch of complete seasons before that so it might just be a one off

  • mcloki

I don’t know how the Slovaks lost against Slovenia. Canada should be good till Friday.

  • Great Dane

CanuckUKinToronto Agree – 4 million would way too much for Franson – then it is better to trade him when his value is high.  Not to forget he is a RFA so the new team as control

  • MaxwellHowe

Maybe the entire strategy of picking players for international ice surface tournaments muct change.  Pick more shutdown, checking forwards, a few more shut down D, and beat the Europeans at their trap game.  Really, a few tweeks to Team Canada’s line-up, impose a trap defence, and they might be near impossible to score on.  Have enough scorers to capitalize on mistakes made by the opponent.  Granted, not the most exciting hockey.

  • Burtonboy

MaxwellHowe  Leafs have a couple extra days before they start . Don’t play till the 27th so that will help

  • TuckerForPunishment

    Hurry Hard Baby!!

  • TuckerForPunishment

CanuckUKinToronto MaxwellHowe  Agreed.  We are probably the stingiest team in the tourney? No?

  • MaxwellHowe

CanuckUKinToronto MaxwellHowe Thats why i say, one or two tweeks to the line-up and Team Canada would ne damn near impossible,to score on

  • TuckerForPunishment

Burtonboy MaxwellHowe  10 MORE DAYS!!!   CAN”T TAKE IT.

  • TheCanucksnaphook

I dont know what it is but I HATE Cassie Campbells voice.

  • TheCanucksnaphook

36-2 SOG for USA at this point….this poor chick in net is getting crushed.

  • mcloki

Larceny. I see the CBC announcer has watched a Bowen voiced Leaf game or two.

  • mcloki

Should change her name to Bernier

  • TheCanucksnaphook

mcloki  yup….was a solid save.  Too bad the grating voice is ruining this for me.

  • mcloki

    Campbell’s or the guy?

  • TheCanucksnaphook

Christ….good thing it wasnt a fuckin medal game.

  • TheCanucksnaphook

mcloki  Cassie.  Finger nails on chalkboard.

  • mcloki

Why haven’t we thought of that

  • drummond

Poor swedish girls, the US ladies domination is insane. US leading 4-0, shots 42-2 so far and we have not reached the 30 min mark yet.

  • TuckerForPunishment

Some of these ladies spend more time gooping on makeup than they did getting suited up.

  • mcloki

It’s the speed of the Americans. Just too fast

  • TheCanucksnaphook

    Bozie !!

  • Burtonboy

    mcloki  46-3 sog ..good grief

  • maple1967leafs

Half of these Yankee ladies are bigger than Brendan Gallagher
