With a win tonight, the Leafs could leapfrog Tampa into third in the Atlantic (for the time being… Tampa has two games in hand).
How is James Reimer going to respond? Will the Leafs calm the rumbling masses (TSN Radio actually mentioned the “18 wheeler” today after two losses in a row)?
Each game becomes bigger than the one previous at this time of season.
Reimer sucks. Carlyle isn't stupid. He's just not wearing blinders like all the Reimer apologists out there.
Funny but I suspect it's the exact same people who made excuses for Mats Sardine with the tired refrain "he never had decent linemates in Toronto", only this time they make similarly pathetic excuses for Reimer by saying "the team hung him out to dry". Leafs fans have a very difficult time assessing talent. Sardine sucked and so does Reimer. If there's any question that Bernier is a far superior goalie to Reimer, you really are a hockey idiot.
Is missing the playoffs this year a COMPLETE failure? It obviously would be a disappointment after the situation we had set ourselves up in not 3 games ago, but would it be something that mitigates a "heads must roll" mentality for anyone in the offseason?
The task at hand has become winning 6 of our next 11 games. Two of those games are against Boston and St. Louis. This weekend is a back-to-back that I believe we must squeak 3 points out of (preferably beat the Habs in regulation). Next week we have another back-to-back Friday/Saturday after we had 2 just this week. The scheduling is a joke, and our boys are tapering off a bit at the wrong time. Time to bear the **** down boys....
If Bernier comes back and we miss the playoffs, I will gladly take my lumps. I just feel that our chances to win increase with him in net.
Reimer is done with this team. Carlyle has made this a messy situation. Not with his comment yesterday, but throughout the season. What a nightmare. He cannot be fired soon enough.
It is going to be a very dark time when I have to defend Bernier next year during his first rough patch like I have with Kessel, Phaneuf, Reimer, gardiner, and Lupul. I think this time I should remember names before everybody turns on him
I will say this.... I dont feel comfortable with Reimer in net... just doesnt seem very sharp, whens BERNIE back?! By Montreal game? *crosses fingers***
Yo Welder...Jiri Tlusty called...he wants his pictures back.
@Welder24 dont think any really think reimer is better, and oher than that i dont know what the point of this nonsense point was. Yup, Sundin sucked, only put up the most points in leafs history with blake and poni on his wing.
@Welder24 Sundin sucked? Blasphemy man...blasphemy
@Hammertownleaffan If Carlyle didn't get his walking papers, then yes, my head would roll.
they definitely do, doesn't make Reimer the shitty goalie everybody says he is
@Cameron19 So it's Carlyle's fault that Reimer is crap? Maybe Reimer should grow up and accept that he's just not that good, at least not good enough to be #1. He has no reason to be upset with Carlyle. Carlyle is just telling it like it is.
he is an asshole. what i wouldn't give for mike babcock.
@Bon Scott was a Leaf fan Did you ever finish season 2 of Banshee Bon? I just did...loved it
@Bon Scott was a Leaf fan All is lost if we are relying on Dreger for pertinent information
@Bruffins Bernier may have rough patches, but he is a sound goalie. May lose those capabilities over time but I think he is the bet fundamental goalie we have had in a long time.
@lukethenuke Not everyone is going to keep winning all their games, and we aren't going to keep losing, either.
unlike you I don't cheer against our players
@Cameron19 @lukethenuke i dont know, we seem to be very streaky, and this could be a streak that fucks us. Other teams are all catching fire... not enough time to rebound if this goes bad. Youre thinking positively, and thats nice, but the other side is possible. All it takes is one team to knock us out
They did. I just read the Wikepedia article on the Blues. Can you imagine? I guess eveyone gut bumped up one in the order. I remember that people were talking about the league contracting so there was no team to pick players for. The team was saved at the 11th hour by Harry Ornest who bought them and kept them there.
@Bon Scott was a Leaf fan @Roenick72@Bruffins No back when Saskatoon first built their new arena their was serious talk of this. Back before high salaries and corporate sponsorship. This is from Wikepedia "It finally found a buyer in a group of investors led by WHA and Edmonton Oilers founder Bill Hunter, who then made plans to move the team to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. However, the NHL was unwilling to lose a market as large as St. Louis and vetoed the deal."
@Bruffins @Roenick72 I love this team more than anyone I know. When I was a kid (80's) we would play road hockey in Saskatchewan and everyone would pick who they are. One kid would pick Gretzky, the next Coffey, Fuhr, Messier. It would come to my turn and I would pick Palmeteer, Viave, or Salming. Kids would laugh and say WHO?
@Bon Scott was a Leaf fan @Hammertownleaffan Justified isn't having its best season (still a phenomenal show though)...Americans is always great...I haven't caught Vikings yet I'll put that on my list...I'm halfway through the last Game of Thrones book so I'm ready for the new season. True Detective is a must...I thought it was captivating.
@Cameron19 @lukethenuke Luckily we have SOME, very little room to wiggle, but we have to correct this now... there are no moral victories anymore. GOTTA get the two points Saturday. No if ands or buts about it. If we dont get it, we are as likely to make the playoffs as we are to miss it IMO"
heres what i said below ;)
@Cameron19 @lukethenuke A little lower I said its the brink now for us, and that if we lose to Montreal then we hit panic, now i agree is one game too soon, but its coming fast. Yeah, but that was always an outside chance, they always had to run the table to get back in it and thought they could, but shit has happened there thankfully... and no one actually turned the corner like it looked like it, and Hemskey has looked nicey for the,
@lukethenuke @Cameron19 You said the same thing about Ottawa when they had lost 4 of their last 5. I agree a losing streak right now is a bit worrying, but I would just put the panic on hold a little while longer. Every year in the east it seems like "no one wants to make the playoffs" and everyone starts losing.
