Yep, I’m careful about that. I remember we had our ad server popping up autoplay lysol ads for a while and I was going nuts trying to get those down. Leafs tix (pretty useful), Sports Apps, new movies, all minimally distracting ad campaigns.

Yeah, as much as I bad mouth HB now, I didn’t mind Eklund at all back in the day. Ultimately he should’ve followed through on a financial commitment he promised me and maybe I’d have stayed a while longer, but a site of my own was always a goal of mine anyways. He did give me a platform with a big Leafs audience on which to establish my name, so ultimately I have to thank him for it.

During the lockout he did hockey fans a service, for sure. It was when he made the decision to go full time with the rumour gig that his reputation got absolutely tarnished. It was always going to go that way. Hell, McKenzie and Dreger can’t come up with fresh scoops on who might be dealing who to where everyday, certainly not with even an ounce of credibility, and they’re always gonna beat him to scoops on actual deals.

I’d trust most of what Ek has to say about Philadelphia and that’s about it. It’s become such a shameless traffic grabbing game for him, where he’ll intentionally drop “LEAFS” in his titles and say little to nothing followed by “more to come.” It’s a testament to how crazy and rumour hungry a lot of hockey fans are that he can continue to run that site with success. It’s mostly entertainment now, I find it hilarious that the first 50 comments on a given blog post of his consist of him getting absolutely slagged for what he just wrote. He’s a joke on his own site but somehow it doesn’t really matter to the readers.
