Randy Carlyle End of Season Presser

644

Randy Carlyle addresses the media after his team’s epic collapse in the stretch run.

Founded in 2008, Maple Leafs Hotstove (MLHS) has grown to be the most visited unofficial team-focused hockey website online (Quantcast). Independently owned and operated, MLHS provides thorough and wide ranging content, varying from news, opinion and analysis, to pre-game and long-form game reviews, a weekly feature piece, the "Leafs Notebook", along with a Web TV show the "Maple Leaf Hangout".

So in RC presser he identified that this team was not difficult to play against whereas last year we were quite difficult to play. So what happened?  Well it demonstrates that there is a fine line between the two.  You remove Mark Fraser from playing a solid 16-18 minutes a night. You take away Komarov's 14-16 minutes of grit and hit. You take Grabovski's courage and ability to skate the puck away for 16 minutes. And you remove a bull like Frattin for 14 minutes. The problem is that other players lose a few pounds without the reinforcements.  The collective spirit of the team was damaged.  Our depth took a huge hit. Nobody wanted to go to work this year.

It was a very embarrassing season. Fans who are honest could see this coming from the first game. The puck winning was the worst I have ever seen. if you cannot win pucks how on earth can you compete.

If Nonis survives it isn't getting better.

Anybody think that St. Louis' collapse and injury problems are directly related to thousands of Leafs' fans announcing that they will be their playoff team to cheer for this year?

So Carlyle was up there telling the truth about Jake Gardiner today. I guess that went over big in here, eh?   lol

so NHL 13 franchise mode update. Currently on the equivalent of what is next season (Ekblad draft already happened) and my D-core is Rielly-Phaneuf, Gardiner-Ekblad, Gunnar-Granberg. Forwards look like shit but work in process

@Tim Horton Was that Cody Franson he was skating against? Nevermind, that guy was working hard, it obviously wasn't Frannie.

@Tim Horton

this clip is a great metaphor. The puck is Datsyuk and the guy on defence is Toronto Management trying to get him

@Jmessih

sometimes shot-blocking catches up with a team.  the best systems are the ones that require the least amount of "body on the line" but still win.

goalies have a lot of padding on to stop pucks.  caoches should try to keep shots to the outside and goal creases clear.  players should jump on loose pucks and battle for defensive position.

i'm brainwashed.

@Jmessih Pietrangelo, too.  Forgot about Tarasenko and Sobotka being down.

@Cameron19 Nothing new for me. Never saw everything that others think they do. For me Jake might be safe though until Franson is moved.

Funny how he goes from saying everything that's said in the dressing room stays there... then comes out and essentially throws Gardiner under the bus a minutes later... even though he doesn't use his name.

Despite what Gardiner thinks of himself and yes he makes mistakes... he's also young and is one of the few Leafs that brings it every night. Certainly down the stretch where he and Rielly put the team on there backs

So true... Look at all the nice things that Columbus' head coach had to say about us... his team goes on a tear after that and makes the playoffs

do not watch, don't think there was a single interesting part... Couple clips with Mckegg but nothing cool

@Jmessih @Cameron19I think they just gave him a couple maintenance days.  He, Backes and Oshie are expected to play the first game of the playoffs.

@GreekGod @Cameron19@Chris JayOh yea, he's implying that Gardiner thinks he's an all-star or something. I really doubt that though. You don't hear many hockey players talking like that.

@GreekGod @Chris JayWe don't even know the context of whatever Gardiner supposedly said though, do we? He could have just said something like "I see myself as a rover, sort of like Scott Niedermayer." Doesn't mean he thinks he is as talented as Scott Niedermayer.
