We need these two points tonight.  Anything lower than 4th in the conference is a log jam for a playoff berth.

The hill gets steeper from here on in as all games will be hard fought by just about every team.

"O'Reilly missed the last two games with a freak shoulder injury that he suffered on Monday while celebrating a Paul Stastny goal." This guy might be too injury prone lol ;)

Of all goalies with a save pct. above 910, Reimer is the only goalie with a GAA above 3. He may only get another half dozen starts to improve on these numbers, unless the coach changes his starter preference? This may be a very tough negotiation for Claudy.

Man, Byfuglien has been amazing at forward.

If Nonis could convince Burke to acquire Bozak, and fill his spot with a Stastny signing... that would be just fantastic.

@TheCanucksnaphook A 2nd-line center, a 2nd-pairing Dman, and a 3rd-round pick for an older, albeit better defensively 2nd-line center? Why?

@Murph2417 We NEED a big win tonight.   Gotta keep the Turds and the rest of them further back.  ( also gets us closer to the Habs).

@DWCMLHS I think that moving Bozak probably means exploring moving Kessel, too. Do you honestly see our management saying "Good job continually progressing Bozie, but you're out, Stastny's in".

@TheCanucksnaphook @Cameron19 Just has so much more energy, even late in the game. Just came all the way back for a Datsyuk-ian take-away and got a standing ovation, lol.

DWCMLHS

@Cameron19 @DWCMLHS Continually progressing? How so? He produced at a slower rate last season than the season prior, with a higher shooting percentage. His absolutely ridiculous percentages are probably solely responsible for his dramatic increase in production this season, and they are definitely not sustainable in the long run. Not even close. It's not like he's been getting any better defensively, either. He's worse on face-offs so far this season, too. He's still an offensive-minded 3rd-line caliber center. He's just riding high percentages and plays with ridiculously talented linemates. We can move him and keep Kessel. Kessel isn't fucking 5 years old.

@TheCanucksnaphook @Cameron19 Kadri is still on pace for 48 though, and that's in the middle of his sophomore year.  Staal is what he is. Kadri has a lot left to give.

Unless there is a big package deal in the works ... my unpopular opinion is that Reimer will sign for 1 possibly 2 more years. The demand for Goalies is to weak this year with Miller and Anaheim. Best to wait till next year or after. Price will only go up ...

Cameron19
Cameron19

@TheCanucksnaphook @Cameron19 @Leafbites Nope, which is exactly why we'll regret moving him. I like Bernier, I'm fine moving forward with him, but a part of me also can't wait until Reimer is gone and suddenly the fan base TOTALLY turns on Bernier, and all this shit about how "calm and cool" he is turns into "he's so fucking lazy and disinterested!! Bring back Reimer!!"

Cameron19

@TheCanucksnaphook @Cameron19 That was the thing with Buff at defense, is people thought he was lazy, but he was just legitimately exhausted by the end of a game. Granted, he could be in better shape, but by all accounts he tries, and his body just doesn't respond. He's never going to be cut.

DWCMLHS
DWCMLHS

@Knights2Leafs @Cameron19 @DWCMLHS @vinoa With the best on-ice shooting percentage in the league (min 30GP). Not even close to sustainable. I like Kadri, but maybe hes just the 50ish point 2C he was always projected to be, and that's okay.

DWCMLHS
DWCMLHS

@Cameron19 @DWCMLHS @vinoa @Knights2Leafs 64 points would have tied him for 40th in points by forwards in 11/12. I think 60+ points is star-caliber production in today's NHL.

Stastny's line is the top line. He and Landeskog have faced the toughest competition by far this season.

DWCMLHS
DWCMLHS

@Cameron19 @DWCMLHS @vinoa @Knights2Leafs I think he can handle 3C duties. We haven't seen much of him, but we wouldn't need him to be spectacular, by any means. Stastny is a legitimate 1C, who is producing like a star again. Kadri is a legit 2C, and has room to improve. We'd just need Holland to play like a 3C, and I think he can.

Cameron19
Cameron19

@DWCMLHS @Cameron19 @vinoa @Knights2Leafs Holland has played 25 games. I think we'd be dumb to move forward under the assumption that he can be the key to an effective scoring line. Rather move forward with him further down the roster, waiting for injuries and waiting to prove himself.

DWCMLHS
DWCMLHS

@Cameron19 @vinoa @DWCMLHS @Knights2Leafs I wouldn't keep Bolland, either. Stastny, Kadri, Holland. That's a good top-3 center group for a 3 scoring line team. Holland is cheap, in contrast to Stastny, who will be fairly expensive. I'd keep Smith around, in addition to McClement.

vinoa
vinoa

@Cameron19 @vinoa @DWCMLHS @Knights2Leafs Really? I thought Bolland was the prototypical 3rd C Carlyle likes in his system. I don't know much about Stastny but do you think he'd be defensively better than Bolland?

DWCMLHS
DWCMLHS

@vinoa @DWCMLHS @Knights2Leafs @Cameron19 They appear to have been doing a "pairs" thing. Stastny with Landeskog, Duchene with O'Reilly, and Mitchell with Talbot. Guys like MacKinnon, McGinn, Parenteau and Tanguay have been moving around the lineup.

Knights2Leafs
Knights2Leafs

@DWCMLHS @Knights2Leafs @Cameron19

You may be right but he hasn't been anywhere near a point per player in 4 years.  We know what we have in Bozak. We don't with Stastny nor do we know what he would cost.

vinoa
vinoa

@Cameron19 @vinoa @DWCMLHS @Knights2Leafs Even better. He already plays with skilled forwards. Not to knock Kessel and JVR but Landeskog and O'Reilly are younger and more likely to improve. I don't see Statsny as being that much better with JVR and Kessel. If he was a legit 1C that deserved his own coverage defensively then it would give a whole new dimension to our 1st line. Right now he's just maybe marginally better than Bozak minus the chemistry.

DWCMLHS
DWCMLHS

@vinoa @DWCMLHS @Knights2Leafs @Cameron19 He and Landeskog have played together most of the season. Their other winger has been changed a lot. Stastny's next two top linemates after Landeskog have been Parenteau and Tanguay.

Cameron19
Cameron19

@DWCMLHS @Anthony Petrielli @Cameron19 Basically you're talking about a very tiny difference in pace production over the course of his first 250 games though. Is it so hard to believe that, despite the high percentages, he's also legitimately taken a step forward?  He's basically been a 50 pt pace guy, but now is on pace for 72.  Could it be when he comes down he settles in around 60? I mean, EVERY player that sees a jump in production must have some period with high percentages. This isn't an exclusive to Bozak.

DWCMLHS
DWCMLHS

@Cameron19 @DWCMLHS Stastny is so a 1C. He has been a 70+ point player 3 times. His production slowed with Duchene and O'Reilly being awesome and creating a cluster-fuck of center talent, but he's producing at a star level again this season, and would probably be even better with Kessel and JVR on his wings. He's a huge upgrade over Bozak.

DWCMLHS
DWCMLHS

@Anthony Petrielli @DWCMLHS @Cameron19 His increased goal-scoring pace was a result of a high shooting percentage. And his point pace was lower than in 11/12. He was definitely worse last season than in 11/12. Not by that much, though.

Cameron19
Cameron19

@DWCMLHS @Cameron19 I think one thing you're overlooking with him though, is that he'll likely continue to improve so long as the rest of the team does. If we're running 3 effective scoring lines, he's only going to get more shifts away from top pairs, and still with great wingers.

-

I don't think adding Stastny makes Bozak expendable - neither are 1C's.

Anthony Petrielli
Anthony Petrielli

@DWCMLHS @Cameron19 He played to a near 50 point pace last year and 20 goal pace too which is more than what he had the year before. Not a big jump, but still improved pace.

Knights2Leafs
Knights2Leafs

@Cameron19 @DWCMLHS

Contrast that with Stastny whose production has been declining. Over the last 3 seasons Bozak has done just as well production wise.  He's a year younger and I'm guessing Bozak's contract will be a lot less than Stastny's next one.  Just don't see Stastny as enough of an upgrade.

DWCMLHS
DWCMLHS

@Cameron19 @DWCMLHS His increase in production from the 10/11 season to the 11/12 season skews the numbers. Producing only 32 points in 82 games as a sophomore and being on a tear to start this season fucks up the trend line.

He is producing better this season than he ever has, but it won't last. His next best season was his rookie season.

Bozak's highest points/game:

1. 13/14 season (riding insane, unsustainable percentages)

2. 09/10 season

3. 11/12 season

4. 2013 season (lockout)

5. 10/11 season

He's all over the map.

Bozie still has less than 3.5 seasons worth of NHL games played.

Cameron19
Cameron19

@DWCMLHS @Cameron19 But Mirtle posted a graphic yesterday showing his continual progress over his career. Despite the high percentages the last 10 games or so, he's still been trending up almost continually. I think he broke it down into 20 game segments - so last season's "reduced production" didn't really effect it.

DWCMLHS
DWCMLHS

@Cameron19 @DWCMLHS Unfortunately. Ugh. Nonis could have improved the team so much this summer. Fuuuuuuck. What a waste.
