Live streaming video of the Brendan Shanahan Press Conference, where he is to be introduced as President of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
For all you stragglers, new thread is up
Bold prediction number 1:
Nonis trades for a goalie to compete with Bernier for the number one spot since we don't know if he can stay healthy over a full season yet
Best thing I have seen
What you guys think of trading Lupul + Reimer + Franson + To the Jets for Ladd and Buff?
JVR - Bozak - Kessel
Ladd - Kadri - Byfuglien
Leivo - Bolland - Clarkson
Komarov - McClement - Bodie
Reading on Trotz this article http://blogs.edmontonjournal.com/2014/04/09/edmonton-oilers-todd-nelson-modeled-his-coaching-style-on-barry-trotz/ seems to suggest he is more likely to give the AHL boys some chances so thats a plus.
"One of the interesting things about Trotz is that when he moved to Nashville he gave opportunities to a number of minor-league players who had spent time with him in Portland."
@Mcost61 NHL hockey is done....I watch the Marlies now.
@Bobsyouruncle Yeah what a dipshit.
@CanuckUKinToronto way over on RC, its either now or after play offs
@CanuckUKinToronto Over on Both. I think Nonis stays one more year
Or we change our system so Bernier doesn't have to face 45 shots a night...
are you ready to trade Holland for a fourth? Do the same with Ashton and D'amigo soon as well?
@dlb meh Because he will know how to set the lines better next year. Not buying it
@GreekGod Not bad, I think Kadri needs big wingers to play with, to give him some spine.
@Burtonboy I hope it raises his value even higher so that we can use him in a package for JT ;)
I think he's a better coach then Carlyle... And I'm sure his system is better. However, I don't know how good it will be for the Leafs. Trotz has had Suter, Weber, and Rinne all those years that really helped get Nashville into the playoffs. These past couple of years have really shown what he's capable of (with the subtraction of Suter) and I'm not overly impressed. Really like the guy though.
@Tonystarks90292 short answer, yes
@NotTheCanucksnaphook announcing NoNo as his new GM?
Should add I'd want to trade a guy like Gleason for him. Would free up half a million in cap space and their contracts expire 2 seasons from now
@dlb meh @4evrblue and in this case all of us fans would quickly call bullshit on that controversy. Imagine the gall of a guy sitting his starter when he's injured and having to play the only goalie that brought this team to the playoffs in the last 9 years? Even Healy couldn't spin that into believable bullshit.
"Why isn't Bernier going tonight?"
"Well he tweaked something, its not bad, hes good enough to play backup, we just don't want to see him hurt himself further, a few days rest is all he needs"
Wheres the controversy?
@GreekGod @4evrblue@dlb meh Clarkson played a lot with Kadri and Naz. He looked lost out there. He played a lot with Holland and Kulemin also, guys that can cycle a little better and play a little more to his style. Again it didn't work.
Gotta point out that Raymond played a lot on the 3rd line also but he seemed to do okay with it.
Not when you bring in a sought after UFA. You have to give him the chance to gel with his new team and line mates to create that chemistry. Clarkson was never given that. You have to put players in a position to succeed... Putting Clarkson with McClement and expecting results is one of the dumbest things i've heard. It's like sticking Holland in between Orr and MacClaren and then asking yourself why isn't the guy putting up points or looking good out there...
You say you watched them skate up the ice with purpose
All year I saw them chip the puck out because of a lack of breakout passes which resulted in a bunch of icings. Those icings lead to tired players and penalties. Those penalties lead to the team being hemmed in because for some reason they can ice the puck just fine 5v5 but when down a man it's impossible. Being hemmed in and tired lead to lots of goals.
I saw our most promising marlies come up only to be treated like shit and given 5 minutes a night
I saw our 1A, 1B goalie tandem become a 1 and 2 tandem before the 2 deserved to be pushed down the depth chart
I saw our most lethal shot from the blueline on his offside all year long which lead to a lack of scoring which in turn lead to him being ripped on by fans consistently
I saw a guy that ended the year with 11pts in 60 games and a -14 rating trotted out to play big minutes over and over again because of his contract
I saw a team that got thoroughly run down because of a refusal to use the depth in the organization to put together a capable 4th line
I saw a team that couldn't cycle, couldn't defend and could barely wake up until the 2nd period. A team that played for the name on the back instead of the crest on the front.
Thats all on Carlyle and his team. So pardon me if I prefer the short answer of "Yes, anybody is better than Randy right now" because frankly I'm sick of typing out the long answer. We've discussed this shit all year long and I don't care to go over it again.
Is Trotz better than Carlyle?
@4evrblue @Bruffins @Tonystarks90292 Could he handle the media here? Do his tactics work in a big hockey market? Does he design systems to suit his team or does he expect his team to adhere to his system regardless? These would be the questions surrounding Trotz. But he certainly has the reputation of being able to draw blood from a stone. Having said that, since he lost his elite defense, he's without a playoff berth.
