I am a Lightning fan this round

Bold prediction number 1:

Nonis trades for a goalie to compete with Bernier for the number one spot since we don't know if he can stay healthy over a full season yet

What you guys think of trading Lupul + Reimer + Franson + To the Jets for Ladd and Buff?

JVR - Bozak - Kessel

Ladd - Kadri - Byfuglien

Leivo - Bolland - Clarkson

Komarov - McClement - Bodie

I find it interesting Bozak got an invite to play for Team Canada.

@Bruffins

Or we change our system so Bernier doesn't have to face 45 shots a night...

@dlb meh

are you ready to trade Holland for a fourth? Do the same with Ashton and D'amigo soon as well?

@dlb meh Because he will know how to set the lines better next year. Not buying it

@Burtonboy  I hope it raises his value even higher so that we can use him in a package for JT ;)

I think he's a better coach then Carlyle... And I'm sure his system is better. However, I don't know how good it will be for the Leafs. Trotz has had Suter, Weber, and Rinne all those years that really helped get Nashville into the playoffs. These past couple of years have really shown what he's capable of (with the subtraction of Suter) and I'm not overly impressed. Really like the guy though.

@CanuckUKinToronto @Bruffins Would anybody consider Backstrom for that spot? Is he washed up or did he just have a bad year and might need a change of scenery?

Should add I'd want to trade a guy like Gleason for him. Would free up half a million in cap space and their contracts expire 2 seasons from now

@vinoa @Burtonboy  The corsi boys have to be pissed.   I'm happy for bozak and sure hope we trade him at near is career high

@CanuckUKinToronto @Mcost61 I would like to see some house cleaning, but nothing so far tells me that it will be soon. I have given up wishful thinking.

Im saying they don't get a chance to prove themselves.

You can not tell me a coach that plays prospects in their wrong position between Orr and McLaren is doing so in their best interest

4evrblue

@dlb meh @4evrblue and in this case all of us fans would quickly call bullshit on that controversy. Imagine the gall of a guy sitting his starter when he's injured and having to play the only goalie that brought this team to the playoffs in the last 9 years? Even Healy couldn't spin that into believable bullshit.

4evrblue
4evrblue

@dlb meh @4evrblueI suggested it also and figured doing that would have strengthened the bottom lines. Ashton on the 2nd means Clarkson and Bodie on the 3rd and 4th which is spreading out the talent. We saw that after we were officially eliminated for what? 1 game? Too little too late.

@dlb meh @Bruffins

Orr was not good at all. His line mates would constantly cycle and then when anything came to him it was over. He didn't get a single point and was outshot 2 to 1 on the season (despite getting sheltered minutes and offensive zone draws)

4evrblue
4evrblue

@dlb meh @4evrblue Its documented fact Bernier was injured. It's not too convenient and it wouldn't have been a controversy to sit him.

"Why isn't Bernier going tonight?"

"Well he tweaked something, its not bad, hes good enough to play backup, we just don't want to see him hurt himself further, a few days rest is all he needs"

Wheres the controversy?

GreekGod

@4evrblue @GreekGod @dlb meh

Between his suspensions and injuries Clarkson never got the proper time with Kadri. Don't forget that Bozak was injured and Kadri was up and down in the line up. This was a fucked up year.

4evrblue
4evrblue

@dlb meh @Bruffins and you're going to pretend that played Ashton 4 minutes a night with McClement and Orr/McLaren and asking him to produce is giving him a legit chance?

4evrblue
4evrblue

@GreekGod @4evrblue@dlb meh Clarkson played a lot with Kadri and Naz. He looked lost out there. He played a lot with Holland and Kulemin also, guys that can cycle a little better and play a little more to his style. Again it didn't work.

Gotta point out that Raymond played a lot on the 3rd line also but he seemed to do okay with it.

4evrblue
4evrblue

@dlb meh @4evrblue It was Carlyles fault. Bernier pulled his groin before the LA game. Caryle allowed him to make the choice to play or not. You can't do that. You know a guy is going to play against his old team no matter what. He should have sat him down

4evrblue
4evrblue

@dlb meh @4evrblue Everything to do with the coach. He never had guys in the right spot to receive passes for a breakout. Thats a system flaw

GreekGod
GreekGod

@4evrblue @GreekGod @dlb meh

Not when you bring in a sought after UFA. You have to give him the chance to gel with his new team and line mates to create that chemistry. Clarkson was never given that. You have to put players in a position to succeed... Putting Clarkson with McClement and expecting results is one of the dumbest things i've heard. It's like sticking Holland in between Orr and MacClaren and then asking yourself why isn't the guy putting up points or looking good out there...

Bruffins
Bruffins

@dlb meh @4evrblue

we had depth that wasn't even being used. Hard to make a team when there are only 3 lines

4evrblue
4evrblue

@dlb meh @4evrblue He screwed up by not using all of his assets properly. Use Reimer more and you keep both guys fresh and keep pushing both to be better and win games. Instead we got a deflated Reimer and an injured Bernier

4evrblue
4evrblue

@dlb meh @4evrblueDo they? Do they stand around with the puck and look up ice for a pass and when they don't see one panic and chip it out?

Or do they know they have the bodies to play a chip and chase game so decided it was best for the organization to actually play to their strengths?

GreekGod
GreekGod

@4evrblue @dlb meh

IMO Carlyle completely misused Clarkson. Kept him on the third line with McClement. Barely any PP time either... Not sure how he's suppose to find his game and put up points when he's got nobody to play with.

4evrblue
4evrblue

@dlb meh @4evrblue not even sure how you can defend this guy

You say you watched them skate up the ice with purpose

All year I saw them chip the puck out because of a lack of breakout passes which resulted in a bunch of icings. Those icings lead to tired players and penalties. Those penalties lead to the team being hemmed in because for some reason they can ice the puck just fine 5v5 but when down a man it's impossible. Being hemmed in and tired lead to lots of goals.

I saw our most promising marlies come up only to be treated like shit and given 5 minutes a night

I saw our 1A, 1B goalie tandem become a 1 and 2 tandem before the 2 deserved to be pushed down the depth chart

I saw our most lethal shot from the blueline on his offside all year long which lead to a lack of scoring which in turn lead to him being ripped on by fans consistently

I saw a guy that ended the year with 11pts in 60 games and a -14 rating trotted out to play big minutes over and over again because of his contract

I saw a team that got thoroughly run down because of a refusal to use the depth in the organization to put together a capable 4th line

I saw a team that couldn't cycle, couldn't defend and could barely wake up until the 2nd period. A team that played for the name on the back instead of the crest on the front.

Thats all on Carlyle and his team. So pardon me if I prefer the short answer of "Yes, anybody is better than Randy right now" because frankly I'm sick of typing out the long answer. We've discussed this shit all year long and I don't care to go over it again.

Is Trotz better than Carlyle?

YES!!!!!

4evrblue
4evrblue

@dlb meh @4evrblue the explanation is this then:

The team hasn't bought into what Carlyle is selling

Any coach would be better for us than Carlyle right now.

@4evrblue @Bruffins @Tonystarks90292  Could he handle the media here? Do his tactics work in a big hockey market? Does he design systems to suit his team or does he expect his team to adhere to his system regardless? These would be the questions surrounding Trotz.  But he certainly has the reputation of being able to draw blood from a stone.  Having said that, since he lost his elite defense, he's without a playoff berth.
