The Pittsburgh Penguins (10-3-1) are in town to take on the Toronto Maple Leafs (9-5-2) after taking a 5-0 beat down at the hands of the New York Rangers on Tuesday.
When these two teams face each other, the potential for it to turn into a track meet is always there (see table below for more details). Both teams can score goals with the best of them; Pittsburgh is technically 1st in the league right now with a .750 win percentage and Toronto climbing quickly at 10th in the league with a .625, despite the standings (not accounting for games played) having them listed at 8th and 10, respectively.
Toronto was embarrassed off the ice in the last match vs Pittsburgh, which included a jersey throwing incident. They look to be a different team than the one that showed up October 11th and they can take (some) comfort in Pittsburgh starting their backup goalie, Thomas Greiss.
In much the same way that they were destroyed the Bruins and came back to give them a taste of their own medicine, Toronto can save face with a good showing against Pittsburgh. They do look to be at a different level than Boston does right now, even considering are riding some unsustainably high numbers; Pittsburgh ranks 1st in the league with a PDO of 103.5, which should be moving back down closer to the 100 mark in due course.
This enigmatic Maple Leafs team is certainly an adventure to follow and games like this always add intrigue.
