- Mitch Marner had a ridiculous 21-game point streak snapped versus Guelph on January 13 but has been on an eight-game points streak since, with 12 points (4g,8a) over that span. 15 points in 11 games in January is a reduced pace from his October and November numbers, but if this is what a “slow month” looks like, the Leafs and Knights will take it. Ryan Pyette of the London Free Press reported a few days ago that Marner has been dealing with some pain after sustaining the brutal cross-check to the jaw versus Guelph earlier in the month.
I - Dmyto Timashov had his fourth four-plus point night of the season last night with a goal and three assists versus Drummondville. Timashov is on a five-game point streak with nine points over that span, and has sixteen points in nine games since the trade to the Cataractes. Timashov remains second in the QMJHL in points per game (1.86) behind only Conor Garland.
I - Young Marlies in good form: Six goals, nine points in last nine games played for Brendan Leipsic. Connor Brown is tearing it up since his return from a broken ankle with four goals and six points in four games. Three goals and six points in his last nine for AHL rookie Zach Hyman. Rinat Valiev has six assists in his last nine off the blueline. Josh Leivo‘s first game back in the AHL featured two goals and two assists.
I - Defenceman Cody Donaghey, an undrafted signing in September 2014, had a rocky 2015 while dealing with the rehab of a significant knee injury, but the trade to Moncton in late December has been just what the doctor ordered with 11 points in 13 games played since the trade. All 11 points were accumulated over an eight-game points streak between Jan. 10 and Jan. 23.
I - University of Minnesota-Duluth forward Tony Cameranesi is on a four-game point streak with two goals, three assists, five points and 12 shots in his last four games played.
I - Andreas Johnson has four points and six shots on goal in his last two games for Frolunda, and now sits fifth in SHL scoring this season.
I - London forward JJ Piccinich is looking to avoid first four-game pointless streak of season versus Niagara on Tuesday night.
I - Two goals and four points in his last five for Ohio State’s Dakota Joshua after zero goals and six assists in his first 13.
I - With 12 points in 11 games in the month of January, Andrew Nielsen remains atop the WHL in scoring among defenceman with 52 points in 48 games, six clear of his nearest competition in Brandon’s Macoy Erkamps.
I - Injury Notes: Sarnia Sting winger Nikita Korostelev has not played since January 8 due to an ankle injury. Marlies forward Sam Carrick also hasn’t played since January 8. Scott Harrington remains out long term with an unspecified injury. Kasperi Kapanen has missed three games in a row for the Marlies and is day-to-day with an unknown injury.
