Toronto Maple Leafs Training Camp Roster Tracker – October 8

The Toronto Maple Leafs training camp roster is now down to 29 players with one preseason game to go.

18 players were assigned to the Toronto Marlies today: Antoine Bibeau, Garret Sparks, Nikolas Brouillard, Rich Clune, Travis Dermott, Frederik Gauthier, Justin Holl, Andreas Johnsson, Kasperi Kapanen, Brendan Leipsic, Tobias Lindberg, Viktor Loov, Trevor Moore, Andrew Nielsen, Kerby Rychel, Colin Smith, Dmytro Timashov and Rinat Valiev.

Of note here: Kerby Rychel, in the mix for an NHL job coming into camp, will start with the Marlies; not particularly surprising given he played only nine minutes in his final preseason game. Eligible for the AHL or junior, Travis Dermott and Andrew Nielsen will both get a chance to make the Toronto Marlies out of camp.

Four or five cuts remain up front among Byron Froese, Brooks Laich, Colin Greening, Peter Holland, Brandon Prust, Nikita Soshnikov, Josh Leivo, Zach Hyman, and Connor Brown. Hyman, at this point, has cemented a place in the opening night lineup, and Nikita Soshnikov will start with the Marlies after he missed a sizable chunk of camp due to injury. Brandon Prust will likely be released from his PTO after the final preseason game.

That leaves a minimum of two cuts among the final bubble group: Brooks Laich, Byron Froese, Colin Greening, Peter Holland, Josh Leivo and Connor Brown. Brown is the only player who does not require waivers among this group.

On defence, Andrew Campbell will return to the Marlies, meaning the only remaining decision is whether the Leafs are going to carry all of the other eight defencemen on their active roster, or go down to seven defencemen by cutting Frank Corrado, who requires waivers.
