Toronto Maple Leafs (28-40-11, 29th in NHL) vs. Columbus Blue Jackets (31-40-8, 28th in NHL)

Puck drop: 7:00 p.m. ET
Arena: Air Canada Centre
Watch: Sportsnet East, Sportsnet Ontario

Game Day Notes

– The Maple Leafs have recalled Sam Carrick from the Toronto Marlies on an emergency basis, with Rich Clune returning to the AHL. Carrick is currently on a seven-game point streak in the AHL with four goals and eight points over that span. He has 17 points in 17 games since returning from injury in late February. Carrick last made an appearance for the big club on March 31, 2015. Over 16 NHL appearances in 2014-15, Carrick notched one goal and one assist but averaged just 6:29 in Time On Ice per game. He is an RFA at season’s end.

– Carrick will be the 46th player to make an appearance for the Maple Leafs this season, and the 24th player to make an appearance for both the Leafs and the Marlies this season.

– No sense in talking about the game when everyone’s mind is on the lottery. Here is what’s at stake tonight, courtesy of sports betting sites:

PlaceTeamGPPointsPoints %ROWLottery Odds
30thEdmonton806741.88%2620%
29thToronto796742.41%2213.50%
28thColumbus797044.30%2511.50%

– With the Jets picking up a point last night and the Canucks and Flames’ significant advantage in regulation and overtime wins (the tiebreaker), the Leafs cannot finish higher than third in the standings or pick lower than sixth in the draft.

– A loss to the Blue Jackets tonight ensures a second-last finish, and 13.5% odds at selecting first in the draft, at a minimum.

– A regulation win puts the Leafs one point behind the Jackets for 28th with two games remaining.

– If the Leafs stay tied on points for 30th with Edmonton, they would “win” the tiebreaker and finish last due to their mere 22 regulation and overtime wins.

– The jump/fall between second and third last is just 2%, whereas finishing 30th increases lottery odds by 6.5%.
