Game Day Notes

An absolute must win for the Flyers with the Bruins tied on points for the final wildcard spot (Flyers have a game in hand), with the league’s best tank worst team in the league rolling into their building on a four-game losing streak.

The wildcard factor here is two-fold: Mike Babcock ripped his team arguably the hardest he has at any point this season last night after a tepid effort versus Columbus in the team’s final home game. It was an embarrassing showing made extra awkward by fans clearly celebrating the loss. Perhaps there’s a better effort coming from the Leafs tonight, although the lineup has been stripped so bare and the game means so much for the Flyers that it shouldn’t matter.

Jonathan Bernier will start also, and we all know he’s been pretty good of late with a .937 save percentage since March 5th (seven starts).

The Maple Leafs can clinch a dead-last finish — the first time for the organization since 1984-85 — and 20% lottery odds with a regulation loss tonight. Two or less points in their final two games will seal the bottom spot.
