Anthony Petrielli joins Michael and Michael to talk about the 7-1 Ducks coming to town, the Leafs‘ recent struggles, team identity confusion, poor possession play, the return of Clarkson this Friday, and more.
When I look at our top 6, I always think of other lines or teams that had a dominate line. To me Most teams ( other then probably Pittsburgh and maybe the windy city) usually have a Top 3 that has a Superstar, a Star and a complementary player.
Such as Lindros(superstar), Leclair(star) and Renberg(CP) or Ovi(SS), Backstrom(Star), Knuble(CP)
We Have Kessel who is a 1or 2 on most teams in the league
JVR and Lupul are 3's on most teams
Kadri is a 4 right now
and Clarkson and Bozak are 6's
What I mean by 6's is that on most playoff teams they would have to be the 6th best player in that top 6
I don't know if that makes sense, but it does in my head
Some of our trade proposal fans are going to be in heaven.
Capgeek has developed a "trade machine" on it's website. Fill in the blanks and see the results.
I know some people hate him but didn't Cherry bring up Hall and showed how reckless he was? Or was that RNH? Prophetic.
Anyone want Kulikov? I can see T.O. being interested but why would FLA want to trade him, he's only 22 and a 14th overall pick?
Evening everyone, think we will be involved in a very, very tough game tonight. I have watched 3 Ducks games this season and they are pretty awesome to watch. Even with their PP and PK not clicking they are generating a boat load of chances. Bernier is going to be busy tonight but I think we will sneak it 3-2
@Gilbey93 Its a group not unlike the mid-2000's Sabers offense. Good depth, a couple of Star players, but lacking in that real top talent.
yep. makes sense to me. in the same sense, you can break down the 3rd and 4th lines but "stars" takes on a different sense.
if you also look at the CAP hits now and predict what they could be next year, there's room to add a "star" to the top line as long as the salary allocation is reset more appropriately in the bottom part of the lineup.
Makes sense. You'll always get an argument over some assigned numbers, but it works as a general snapshot.
WHat I'm trying to say is that we have one boarderline superstar and 2 Complementary players but we don't have a Star like a Backstrom or a Leclair
@theacs1966 Hall wasn't injured on a reckless play.
@theacs1966 His development as stalled apparently, hasn't really improved since he broke into the league 3-4 years ago.
I don't think he'd be someone NOnis would be interested in. A project player who's development has stalled. They have enough young, developing D-men they don't need to give another roster spot to another one. Plus he is Russian and his contract is up, so that KHL flight risk thing has to be a factor.
@theacs1966 Too much of what we already have. We need a two-way or defensive d-man. We need some snarl back there.
@Gilbey93 where? I don;t see it
@Xxxxxnew I just traded him for Toews. Lucky me.
@Jmessih I'm going to the game tonight and if I don't see a higher level of toughness, I'm going to be pissed. Falling behind on fighting majors and I'm sure hits are the same. We don't play our game, we lose.
@Burtonboy Yes, astute. From the no shit dept. I can stop them if they're shooting from centre.
@Burtonboy either way it helps pad his stats when people take shots form the blue line at him :)
@Burtonboy Bernier is bang on, the Leafs allow shots from the boards to the face off dot but very few in the 20 foot area prime slot.
@Gilbey93 They have that Star level guy in Kessel, they are missing the superstar.
The problem is the higher up a chart like that you go, the harder the player is to aquire.
@Gilbey93 Lupul isn't a star? Kadri isn't a star? kind of weird assessment. They're definitely more than complimentary players. I'd say Bozak and Clarkson are the complimentary pieces in our top6.
@Gilbey93 I understand and I agree with what you are saying. I think we can all agree that even though Bozak is not the ideal candidate for the 1C slot, we have a pretty good Top 6. Where we might need an improvement is the Bottom 6 as our 4th line is not as good as we would like it to be eventhough we have the necessary players to make it work. I am Ok with our forwards even with both Orr and FML as they play very little minutes, therefore our top 9 would get more ice time.
One area of concern is our D. The D hasn't look really good yet and it is an area of improvement.
@Ze_theLeafsFan @Pent_House @Gilbey93 If you would accept a new class. They are emerging stars. Lupul hasn't been in one place long enough till now, and Kadri just needs to prove it for another season and I'd call him a star. IF he got more that 16 minutes a night and played with Kessel, he'd be a point a game player or more, he's close to that now.
@Pent_House @Jon5200 @theacs1966 totally agree on the identity comment.....they have definitely been missing the 'sandpaper' in the lineup......the only reason i think Mclaren can come back Friday is i saw a tweet yesterday on the TSN site that said he had to b out 10 games when put on LTIR which would mean he could come back when Clarkson can....
I don't think some of them were physically ready for the nastiness of an 82 game NHL season. I can see the long-term benefit of letting a teen grow for a few seasons, esp. RNH who is pretty tiny. I read an article last week where his junior coach was surprised the minutes RNH had been given initially by the Oilers because he couldn't physically handle over 20 minutes in junior.
@Xxxxxnew Shocking, really, how much bad luck they've had.
