Team Records: Leafs – 0-0-0 vs. Canadiens – 0-0-0
2013-14 Season Series: 0-0

The Toronto Maple Leafs vs The Montreal Canadiens. One of the longest, fiercest rivalries in all of sport and the biggest in the National Hockey League. As always, both teams have a lot to prove. Both were said to have aberrations of seasons in 2012-2013. The Leafs rode unsustainably high shooting percentages and out-worldly goaltending. The Canadiens were a fancystats wet dream—high possession numbers—a good coach, solid defense and goaltending. Gamewatchers see a Habs team with a bad makeup, a lack of talent and size up front, where you need to be best.

The Maple Leafs, as we heard ad nauseum, were one of the worst possession teams in the league, and defied advanced statistics predictive nature by scoring off the rush—usually on odd man rushes—and with little-to-no zone time at all, using their now trademark quick-strike offense to put up big offensive numbers. The Maple Leafs have gained the reputation as the fastest team in the league and look to exploit weaknesses in transition play against teams that are caught napping.

If we are certain of anything, this will be a black and blue hockey game, full of fistacuffs and with emotions running high.
