After Toronto took the lead in the first period, Shane Doan scored twice in the next 21 seconds, marking the fastest three goals in a game in franchise history.

The Leafs were able to tie the game midway through the second, but a point shot from Connor Murphy put the Coyotes back ahead. This time they held on, as the Leafs saw a six-game point streak snapped.

The two teams were even in chances and possession through two periods, and the Leafs dominated the third, not allowing Arizona a single scoring chance despite giving up the winning goal. They also extended a big advantage in Corsi, but weren’t rewarded for it. The Leafs had a slight edge in the neutral zone over the game.

After a flurry of chances in the last seven minutes of the first period, things were very quiet the rest of the way. Arizona got its last scoring chance with three minutes left in the second period, and while the Leafs had the last six of the game, it was all for naught.

Joffrey Lupul, Peter Holland and Daniel Winnik were the best offensive line for Toronto, as the top two lines produced very little. Lupul had a strong night, with his six chances the best of the forwards. Nazem Kadri’s line struggled to prevent chances, with Komarov and Grabner the worst of the forwards. Tyler Bozak’s line dominated possession, but wasn’t able to turn that into much offense.

It was another strong night for Roman Polak, who split time with Morgan Rielly and Martin Marincin and had good success with both, on for a team best 7 ES chances. Both Rielly and Marincin finished in the positive as well, while the other pairings had a tougher time. Coming off a strong game, Jake Gardiner and Dion Phaneuf didn’t generate much offense, while Frank Corrado drew in and had a relatively quiet 11 ES minutes.
